Louis J.'s Story

I now live in Cottage Grove, Oregon with my wife Kathy. We have 5 sons and 7 grandkids, 3 boys and 4 girls so far. I left the Rand District on the evening of June 5, 1956 as soon as the Graduation exercises were over and came to Oregon. I stayed in Oregon until Dec. 57, I then returned to the Desert and went to work for the U.S. Borax and Chem Corp. in Mar. 58. I stayed there until Apr. 69. In June of 66, I joined the Kern Co. Sheriff's Reserves and then in Apr. 69, I went full time with the Ridgecrest PD. I stayed there until June of 77, then sold everything in Ridgecrest and moved back to Oregon and have never regretted it for one min. I am Medically retired now due to an accident with a piece of heavy equiptment that I was operating. My kids are scattered all over the U.S. The oldest is in Ridgecrest, #2, is in Drain, Oregon, #3 is in New York City, #4 is in Wasilla, Alaska and #5 is in Cottage Grove, Oregon. I had one Daughter, but lost her when she was 22, the victim of a homicide. ********************************************************************************************...Expand for more
************************************* Update: I am still in Cottage Grove, Oregon but I am now a widower, as I lost Kathy in July of 2010 to cancer. As of Aug.29, 2013, my oldest grand daughter made me a great grandfather for the first time. She had a 7 1/2 pound girl. I have decided that I am going to spend the rest of my life right here in Cottage Grove. I already have my grave site right next to Kathy and the Headstone is already there, but it is kind of weird to see the head stone with both , Kathy and I on it. I spent the happiest 37 years of my life with her and when I go, I will spend eternity with her. I have been here for a total of 40 years, 2 years in the mid 50s and now for the last 38 years. I now have lived in Oregon three years longer than I did in California. I have visited the Rand District several times over the last 38 years and still have no regrets for moving away from that area, Accept for a few friends from R.H.S. that I still stay in contact with. I hope that someone will put at least one more R.H.S Reunion together before there is no one left.
