Workplace
I've been a journalist all my working life after graduating from Eastern Washington State in 1974 with degrees in English and Journalism.
Still working at the Red Deer Advocate after 33 years. Have covered everything imaginable including three Olympics (Moscow, Calgary and Los Angeles) Grey Cups, Stanley Cup playoffs, a swimmer crossing the English Channel, Soccer World Cup in Spain in 1982, Pine Lake tornado.
Now I cover court and police beat. Trying to write a book on a local murder and have had articles published in magazines and other print media. Also written travel articles on our seven vacations in the Caribbean, Russia under communism.

ch encompases Red Deer, Medicine Hat, Lethbridge. We're affiliated with the largest communication union in the world called the Communication Workers of America. Helped organize our wall-to-wall unit in Red Deer with 175 members about 15 years ago.
It's a mostly thankless job but gratifying to see working people get what they deserve from their toils.
A person will never get rich as a journalist unless you hit the big time in Toronto or Montreal but who needs the big cities? I've been there and I'll take a town the size of Red Deer (88,000) any day since it's smack in the middle of Calgary and Edmonton.
Married for 36 years to same woman and have two girls aged 19 and 21, three cats in the yard and life ain't so hard.
Biggest thrill in life watching both daughters being born.
