Jacqueline's Story
I lived just on the other side of Lauderdale, and attended Longview Elementary for the last few months of the school year. Times were very hard for my family. The soul and gospel music heard I on WDIA and WLOK became the soundtrack of my life there. We finally moved back to Wisconsin in 1973, so I didn't go to South Side with my Longview class of '73. However, it turned out to be a bountiful blessing for me.
I graduated from high school in 1976 and have had several employers, including American Motors/Chrysler Corporation. From there, I moved to Washington State, where I've earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in the Liberal Arts, majoring in English with an emphasis in Writing. ormance. Having successful raised 2 daughters and a son, I am single again. I'm looking forward to spending my remaining years writing and performing, since I am now convinced that life truly begins after 50.
I remember a few names from junior high school: Calvin Lockhart, Vida Washington, Corliss Hinton, Kenneth Hart, Sam Bridgeforth, Carol Goodman, Mary Lynn Dotson, Marva Dunlap, John Capers, Patricia Beamon, Rushton Tennort, Jerome Vanderable, Marilyn Dawson, Marvin Coleman, Terron Wright, Samuel Harris, Paula Adair...I think that's it. I pray they're all doing well.
Anyone who remembers me will remember the poor, ugly duckling I was back then. But that was then. Good things come to those who wait, and I am happy to be doing my 50s in style.
