James's Story
I began my high school education at Huntsville High school. While I was there I was heavily involved in the technical side of theater where I did lighting for several of our drama department's production including Barefoot in the Park and My Fair Lady. Additionally I worked in the same capacity for several other groups like the children theater group, Fantasy Playhouse, and Huntsville Little Theater. I moved down to Talladega from Huntsville exactly half way through high school until my mother remarried following my dad's death. After her marriage we moved down to my step-dad's house out on the Clear Creek Branch at Logan Martin. I enjoyed my time there at Talladega High and especially Mr. Syer's Chemistry and Physics classes. He was able to make each one a great learning experience. Don't know of too many Physics classes that used a blow gun to help show gravity and acceleration or to play with Hot Wheel cars in the auditorium to teach physics principles in a concrete way.

efore finally discovering IBM mainframe computers. I ended up with a degree in Business Administration (Accounting) so I could take as many computer courses as I could find. After graduation I married my wife of 36 years, Karen and started a family. We have two children, Tricia-33, and Chris-31. I graduated during the mid-1970s recession and after failing to land a job I decided to go back and get my masters in Industrial Engineering. Again the degree title didn't reflect my course work. It was all computer related, both hardware and software.
I was able to work full time for the Auburn Business office while attending graduate school. In 1981 I got my degree and went to work for IBM in Columbus, GA where I remained in technical sales until I decided to take an early retirement in 2009.
Though I'm retired I'm looking for something to do as a second career. I keep busy with my hobbies which lately have been focused on woodworking and doing stained glass. Being a computer geek I use my computer as a tool to help me design my stained glass and woodworking projects.
