James's Story
What I have been doing since I left...
In 1969, I left Shiremanstown & St Joseph's and moved to Clarks Summit (near Scranton) and went to Abington Heights Junior High and then Senior High Learned to snow ski, played some JV football, JV basketball and ran track
In 1971, I moved to Palatine, IL (a suburb of Chicago) for part of my junior year. It was pretty busy. I continued to play some sports and got elected Class Vice President. We were there for only 8 months total, I loved it, and then we moved again.
I finished my senior year (1973) at Carmel High School, a suburb just north of Indianapolis. During that year, I again played some football and got into stage acting. I even had a solo song & dance in the school musical. Yipes!
I then went on to four years at Purdue University and graduated with an Art & Design degree. While there, I continued to do some local stage acting and, in a moment of insanity, tried to walk-on with the football team my freshman year. And to those that don't remember me, I was never the largest person you knew. LOL! The head coach took one look at me at 5ft 9in, 115 lbs and saved my life... he said NO WAY! So, my brother Joe (if any of you remember him, with the red hair) and I tried out for cheerleading and we both made the squad. We actually tried out just to meet girls but ended up making the squad. Getting into the games for free and hanging out with some unbelievably good looking, athletic w...Expand for more
omen, not too bad for a couple of knuckleheads like us.
I moved back to Indianapolis after graduation, got a job in advertising. I left Indy in late 1982 and moved to Dallas and have been here ever since. When I got here, I played a lot of softball and drank some more beer. I met my wife in 1983 and got married in 1984 and am still married. I have two step-kids (now in their 40s) and 4 grandkids. I didnt have little ones of my own so I am enjoying the heck out of the grandkids. Awhile ago, while out to dinner & splitting Fanta Orange with the oldest granddaughter, she looked up at me and said that I am JUST AN ADULT KID. I took that as a compliment!
I am still working in marketing, having worked with large and small ad agencies here in the Dallas area. At one point, I got to travel to Mexico weekly for business. It was cool for the first 4 years or so but after 8 years it got real old. Presently I am working as a Production Manager for a medium shop.
I don't get back up north too often. Both of my parents left Indiana and lived in eastern Pennsylvania (Allentown), but both have passed now. My brother and I go back to Purdue every two years (as they have a cheerleader reunion). We get to see the other squad members (and we have a beer or two). They actually let us on the field during the homecoming game. It's a nice ego stroke.
And that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
If you remember me, pls drop me a line to say hi!
