Went eight years through that school, as did my four brothers. My mother cooked in the convent/rectory to pay for our tuition because we were on welfare after my father got sick and later passed away. I often think about the group I went to school with from first through eighth grade, the longest stretch of any classmates afterwards. Remarkable, really. n in Oradell or New Milford. With many kids, first generation ethnics, as we were, with my father from Ireland. Life moved along. Became a print and TV reporter, then the communications business. Political and media consulting here and abroad. Still go for a walk once and a while past the "old" school and the "new" one. Shocked to think the "new" school on Elm across the street from the church is now a half-century old.
