James's Story
Life
This year, my beautiful wife and I celebrated our 27th wedding anniversary. We have 4 children, 2 girls, 2 boys, 1 perfect granddaughter, one perfect grandson, a wonderful son-in-law and daughter-in-law. I have a fantastic family, for which I am very thankful.
In 2006, my youngest son fell three floors down an elevator shaft. He suffered a traumatic brain injury. That event, and the recovery that has followed has defined our family life since it happened. Thankfully, Ian's physical recovery has been very rapid, and is basically complete. His emotional recovery is still a work in progress.
Through it all, God has been our constant strength. We are all Christians, and I honestly don't know how anyone can face tragedy, and the rough stuff life seems to throw at us all without Christ.
In high school, I knew 1 or 2 students who seemed to have a strong relationship with the Lord, but I certainly didn't. I would love to hear from anyone from our years at the best school in Knox county. I would ...Expand for more
especially like to know how some of you are getting through life's bumps,or better yet, it's blessings.
Workplace
I guess, in a way I,ve come full circle in my work life. When I was in high school, I worked for my Dad in his drywall business. I continued doing that after graduation for a little while. Then I tried my hand at fast food management for a couple of years with Hardees, here in Knoxville, and a short time in New Orleans ( not short enough) With Popeye's. After which, it was back to drywall for several years. Then, in 1992 I became a pastor in a small Baptist church. Over the next 10 years I was in church planting, pastoring a new church, and later another existing church. I am not currently in the ministry vocationally, but I do teach a class at my church, West Park Baptist in Knoxville. I am back in the drywall mud once again, kind of like that that Bible verse about the dog returning to his vomit, and the swine to wallowing in the mire. I am grateful to have a trade to fall back on.
