James's Story
Life
[This Bio is In progress - I figure it will be easier to write a little at a time]
After graduation from Trevor Brown HS I was faced with a choice of going straight to college with a job in the computer center like I wanted, or Singing with the national choir (basically a European Tour). I'm still kicking myself for not taking the tour. Since my parents had made a move from Phoenix (7353 West Encanto Boulevard) to Casa Grande, Arizona, I decided to skip the summer break and so I enrolled at Grand Canyon University, moved into the dorms and started working in the college computer center. I married Meg Merrifield (now Staggs) in 1981 whom I had known from High School but we really didn't get interested in each other till I graduated. (Penny Smith fixed us up - Thanks Penny you are a great match maker). After we were married, we moved into a house I owned in Casa Grande that I had originally purchased for investment.) I hated Casa Grande for the first year because I was so used to living in Phoenix where you can pretty much find anything. After the first year of living in Casa Grande, we grew to love it and will probably live here forever. Let's put it this way, we purchased a Family burial plot in Casa Grande. We have 3 Children. Brandon who was born in 1986 and Deonette and Dominique who were born in 1988. (They don't like for me to call them "twins" so let's just say they were born on the same day). a varied career (mostly entrepreneurial). I worked for Grand Canyon College Computer Center as System Admin; Trinity Baptist Church - Leading music; Frito-Lay in Casa Grande New plant startup, Plant Manager Assistant; Started my own Computer Company called CompuSult (Now called Compuhelp, Inc.); Started my own Newspaper called Casa Grande Times (Now called Central Arizona Times); Started first Internet Company in Casa Grande called casagrande.com; Purchased 2 other businesses (Mind Pawn Technologies a software development company and Creative Business Services a Secretarial Company). As you can imagine, running 4 companies at one time with 23 employees had me burning the candle at both ends and I realized that I wanted and needed to downsize if I was ever going to get a chance to spend time with my Wife and family. That is exactly what I did; divested myself of all companies except the computer repair business and went to work in the Evenings on the Nation's Most Reliable Network (Namely Verizon Wireless) where I am working on saving for retirement in 401k. Really would like to retire early so I can start some more of my own projects. In my spare time I sing in a Barbershop Chorus. It's fun! Also I really enjoy Bible Study and teach a Sunday School Class each week. I must give credit to my wife Meg, who with great patience has helped me each step of the way. (I'm out of time so email me for more - I'll write more later)
