James (Paul)'s Story

After PV I went to Lincoln Technical School for auto mechanical. From there I worked at A & A Valley Sunoco across from PV for several years. Then I worked here & there. I had my own repair shop in Montclair for about 2 years (worked too many hours at the shop). Then I got smart & got a job with The Port Authority of NY & NJ as a mechanic. Then after about 2 years I took a job in the automotive parts department and I've been doing that for the past 28 years. I got married to my wife Beverly in 1982 and moved to Clifton. We had a son, Justin born in 1985. He is now a teacher in Clifton. Then we had a daughter, Jillian in 1993, she just graduated from Rowan University. Back on February 26th 1993, at 12 noon I got onto a shuttle bus from The World Trade Center to go back to my office in Jersey City, by time I got back into my office it was on the news that there was a bomb blast in the parking garage beneath the towers. If I had not seen one of my co-worker on the main lobby, who worked at the auto shop there on level B-3, I would have been downstairs when that blast went off. he and the other employees got out okay, but as you could image, a little shaken up. Then on 9/11/01, we were just getting done with our morning coffee break when the plane crashed into One World Trade Center. I was watching everything from my office window in Jersey City. Then I saw the second plane crash and knew right away it was another terror attack. I lost several close co-workers that day. I am almost ready to retire after 30 plus years, ( how time flies ). I hope that all is well with everyone. GOD BLESS As you can see by my new picture, my hair style is strange because for the last several years, I shave my head to raise money for the "St. Baldrick's Foundation" to help children with cancer. This is me last year with the "LOLLIPOP KID" look from the Wizard of Oz. Next year I'm going to have a smiley face on the back (can't wait). LOL.. Will post it!!! GOD BLESS, Happy 2018 St Baldrick's I just my pictures from my fundraiser for KIDS WITH CANCER, This year I raised over $2,000.00 for ST BALDRICK'S FOUNDATION, as a group at the Cedar Grove Elk's, we raised over $20,000.00. I don't know what I'm going to do next year, but I know it will be interesting. I will keep you informed. GOD BLESS. Sad news from the Swisher Camp, My dad, Clifford Swisher passed on April 1st 2018. He authored & composed the PV school Alma Mater song as a junior in 1941. PV did recognized him with a memorial on the school's marquee. ( I added the photo), Another sad day for the Swisher family. After about 85 years there will no longer be a Swisher living in Little Falls, Thank you Grandma, Grandpa, Mom & Dad for a WONDERFUL life growing up on Long Hill Road, the BEST!, Lincoln Ave., and Douglas Drive. Also our phone number will no longer be after about the same amount of time. January 13, 2019, 33 years here at The PA. I just set a date to RETIRE, April 19 2020. I will keep everyone informed. March 3rd, 2019, Cedar Grove Elk's is holding their annual St. Baldrick's Foundation fundraiser. As in the past year I will again shave ( somewhat) for kids with cancer. Last year I raised about $1,800.00 and as a lodge we raised about $25,000.00. if you have time and watch the cutting , Please come on down. Or...Expand for more
if you want to donate, just go to St.Baldrick's website and entry my name and donate for a GREAT cause. I will post a new picture after the fact. Well March 3rd came & gone. I DID get my head shaved again & I raised about $2,300.00, As a group we raised over $25,000.00. See below my new haircut. On May 23rd, my son, Justin received his Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Ramapo College. Working in the Clifton School System, he is taking after my father who had worked for the school system for 30 years. I know that he will be a big asset to the school system and to his students. Congratulations!! Well my daughter, Jillian did it now.!! She graduated from NJCU with a Bachelor's degree in Science in Nursing. She will have to take the exam to get her Nursing License in October, I'm so proud of her to go into the nursing field . Ok she's a Registered Nurse now and working at JCMC. March 8th is St Baldrick's day. The day I shave my head for Kids With Cancer. If you want to help me raise money please go to the website and donate. Also on my count down to retirement, April 29th. Well my retirement day came and gone, but I'm still working thanks to this Covid 19. During this time my daughter's stroke floor at the hospital turned into a Covid floor, very stressful for her and my wife, but we survived. My son became Vice Principal at Christopher Columbus Middle School in Clifton, taking after my father to get into administration to help the students even more. I lost several friends to this stupid Covid, and I pray that I don't loose anymore. I hope ALL of you are safe. I hope you all a much BETTER 2021. I will pray for everyone. GOD BLESS. Will let you know when i do retire. My new date is now January 20,2021. Well today is retirement day 1/20/21. After 35 years of working I will be able to say every day is a Saturday. There are many projects that need to be done around the house, traveling (when this Covid crap is over), and camping. I hope all is well. Well it's that time of the year where I'll be shaving my head for KID WITH CANCER ST BALDRICK'S FUNDRAISER. Please go to St Baldrick's website and enter Paul Swisher ID # 1078509 and please make a small donation. You can see my funny hair style before and I will post the pictures afterwards. I just posted my pre-St Baldrick's Day hair style. I will post my post picture after I get cut. OK, I shaved my head again for Kids with Cancer and raised close to $2,000.00. It's not to late to donate. I posted my post cutting picture, a PEACE sign, we need all the peace now more than ever. I can't wait till next year, I don't know what I will put on my head next year but I will let you know. OK, again I shaved my head for St. Baldrick's Foundation and did something crazy again. I have a strip of hair going from ear to ear and bald every were else. I did raise $1,000.00 for this cause. Wait till next year and see what I do. March is right around the corner and what does that mean to me? ST BALDRICK'S TIME. Time to shave my head again to help children with cancer. Please go to StBaldricks.org, Participant # 1111502 and make a small or LARGE donation. God Bless. I will post a picture of this year's shaving. So sorry I forgot. This is this year's picture for my 68 GTO, that I wish I still had.
