had major back surgery this year was in a wheel chair, from oct 2004 to march 2005. and then physical rehab until sept 05, loosing the ability to walk and then regaining it seems miraculous. i had been injured in the military and it kept getting worse.
so know everything is like a second lease on life.
live in the "hill country" of central texas and can't think of a better spot to live in.
sharon (my wife) of 31 years is the greatest blessing i have, matthew and colleen my two adult kids are hard working and adept at putting up with all my guff.
years of being a mental health worker, prison chaplain, police chaplain, and in private practice has left me a little jaded and cynical. put they put up with me any way.
we are starting to travel more and vaction more often, or i should say use the vaction time i've got and not sell it back or not use it. we go to branson alot. And go hunting in colorado and wyoming twice a year. this spring we will motorcycle ride up to jackson hole wyoming with some other biker friends of ours.
been fishing in s.america, mexico and tolerate it because it's matt's favorite pastime. the kids keep you young, besides parachuting in the military my kids do it once a month and i ...Expand for more
haven't been able to for the last five years but next year the doctor says i can if i'm crazy enough.
colleen likes parasailing and windsurfing no i don't do those, although we have gone spelunking and rock climbing.
been on several missionary trips, up to a year at a time in south africa, south america and east africa. i'm afraid i can't do it anymore it takes to much out of me. matt's lived in africa on and off and we visit him. then the whole village he was living in got wiped out by rebel guerrillas and the state dept sent him home and i doubt he will ever go back. matt and i may go to peru for awhile (6weeks) with our church on a building trip for a medical clinic.
sharon's always busy with the kennels and new litters so when matt and i go we just happen to plan it when a couple of litters are coming.
i think she knows we are leaving on purpose but so far she hasn't hid my passport.
my biggest midlife crisis so far is i haven't had one and i want to get over with.
seriously, God has blessed us tremendously, we've certainly like all people had have our share of heartaches and tragedies but it's the getting up that's important not how long you stay down.
missed the last reunion because of my back, don't know if i'd really go or not haven't been back to hamburg in over 11 years. miss it sometimes, but not enough. when i was in the military i learned quickly you can never go home again. so texas here we are after lots of moving. we've been here now 12 years and looks like we're staying. the longest we've ever been in one spot.
so remember the alamo and keep your powder dry, your beer cold, and the shiny side up when cruising onthe bike.
