Jami's Story
Life
Hi classmates,
Time to update here in 2010 as we move closer to our big 30 year reunion. I'm still living in Pittsburgh, PA. Currently I'm a violinist in the Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra, and frequently play with the Pittsburgh Ballet Orchestra and the Wheeling Symphony (WV). I have a private studio of around 35 students (violin/flute), and I free-lance throughout the metro area on violin and flute.
Currently, I'm gearing up for a fun Civic Light Opera (Broadway series) show, The Producers, opening in July '10. I'm also back on the ice a little more frequently after having been curtailed for a couple of years with some repetitive strain injuries. I'm honored to have as my new skating coach Olympic and World pairs figure skating champion Elena Valova. So much fun to "rub elbows" with an athlete of that caliber in my sport!! She's encouraging me to test again, and possibly compete in some Adult skating competitions. In August '09, I began training to become a registered Suzuki Talent Education instructor.
I continue to play a lot of other free lance concerts and events (such as weddings, parties, etc. ). Some particularly fun events have included playing for the show 1964 (a Beat...Expand for more
les revival show who made their third return engagement here this past winter 2010), and the Pittsburgh stop of the "If You're Irish..." tour with some famous Irish musicians, including the fiddler from Lord of the Dance. It's always fun to go from playing opera or symphonic music one week to playing rock and roll or Irish music the next!
As stated above, I still enjoy figure skating as my #1 hobby, and in '04 passed my Adult Gold USFSA field moves and free style tests, in addition to passing through the levels of Juvenile free style and Intermediate field moves in the Regular (qualifying for competition) track. If there are a few more hours in a day, I'll see if I can take on some of Elena's challenges.
A few years ago I participated in the filming of several Doo Wop specials for PBS that continue to air nationwide, usually during pledge drives. They told us that our videos are among the biggest fund raisers for the network, which is always gratifying to hear. Any performer likes to be appreciated!
Hope all of you are well out there. I would enjoy hearing from you. Keep the faith class of '80, and may God bless you!! I hope to see as many of you as can attend the party in August.
