Jamie Lynn's Story
I'm currently a Roving IT Administrator with Geeks on Call (since 2006), as well as a freelance writer. I've lived in 32 places in my 35 years of life. I attended four high schools, and I only spent 6 months at George Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, which is the school from which I graduated. I initially attended Iowa State University, majoring in Computer Science. Three semesters in, I moved back to Cedar Rapids and acquired a Microsoft Networking certification from Hamilton (Kaplan) Business College.
I eventually entered the Air Force, spending a little under one term, stationed at McChord AFB in Washington State. My seven month tech school was at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Mississippi. I did mostly the same thing in the Air Force: Communications, Networks, Switching, and Cryptographic Systems. I initially wanted to pursue a military career in linguistics, particularly Persian/Farsi.
After separating from the Air Force, I moved back to Florida. My immediate family, as well as both sets of grandparents, now live here.
I'm still a computer geek, but I have a passion for the written word, and languages. I'm learning Japanese, ramping up my Spanish, and planning on RE-learning Portuguese, which I spoke fluently as a toddler. I love quantum physics, but don't have the mathematical brain needed to study it in depth. I love patterns in numbers, but hated Calculus. I'm extremely intrigued by the times we live in.
I consume as much information as possible, on as many topics as possible. I'm fascinated by ancient civilizations, and by outer space. I believe...Expand for more
that knowledge is power. I believe that control over language is power.
I had my madness season, which lasted from about age 18 until 26. During that time I claimed that I would be a hedonist forever. Now I'm an adult, and I know better. Still, my life took an unusual and interesting enough path that I am working on an autobiographical work. That either makes me very egotistical, or very confident that my life is actually THAT interesting. ;)
I try to maintain a presence in as many places as possible online, because of the number of times I've moved from place to place. I want people I used to know to be able to find me.
I grew up mostly overseas. My dad was in the Air Force, and we spent eight years at Lajes Air Force Base in the Azores, and two years in between Air Force tours of duty as missionaries south of Lisbon in Portugal.
We returned to the states in 1992, and lived in Marquette, Michigan. While there, between 1992 and 1994, I made life-long friends. We moved to Florida in 1994, and then moved to Iowa in 1996. I also made some of my best, most enduring friends while in Iowa.
In 2001 I moved back down to Florida, and in 2002 I joined the Air Force. I didn't return to Florida until 2004. I've been back in Florida since then.
In 2012 I married my awesome best friend, Greg Banta. I have a daughter named Lucy Belle that was born on 12/12/13. Life is good.
