Jan's Story
After leaving NHS, I ventured to UND to begin college. I next moved on to Mayville State for an elementary education degree with a coaching minor. My first job was teaching third and fourth grades at Pettibone Public School in Pettibone, ND. I continued with this job for the next eight years. My husband, Duane, and I were married on June 18, 1983. He is a farmer/rancher from south of Pettibone and is also in the National Guard and is a North Dakota State Representative. We have three children: Tyler is a paramedic with F/M Ambulance in Fargo, ND; RoxAnne is a senior at Kidder County High School; and Peder is a junior at Kidder County High School. After teaching, I stayed home with our kids until I took a part-time job in an agri-business for a friend of ours. That led to a job offer in the parts department of Jamestown Agri-Sales, the New Holland dealer in Jamestown, ND at that time. From there, I became the Instructional Recreation Director at James River Correctional Center, the North Da...Expand for more
kota medium security prison in Jamestown, ND. After three years there, I again became a stay-at-home mom and farm wife. I completed a course in Medical Transcription and Medical Billing and Coding over the internet through Williston State College, which led to a job from home doing medical transcription for America's Pride, a company serving United States veterans and owned by veterans. I now log in and go to work right here in my home office, which is great! No travel, no roads to contend with, and I am available to my family when needed with no time off of work!
Together, our family lost our home to a fire on July 30, 2001 along with everything we owned. We have learned that it is not the things that matter, but the people, the memories, and our faith in God to get us through the hard times. We have been blessed so many times over in our walk through life, that we cannot dwell on the loss of things. Remember, life goes on with or without you, so why not put a smile on and face each new day!
