Jan's Story

Life I am a free-lance cellist in the Los Angeles area. I used to do a lot of studio work, but now my work is mainly playing in various orchestras and also playing for lots of weddings and parties. I am also President of Last Resort Music Publishing, Inc., which I started in 1996 with my son and daughter-in-law. My life is a nice balance of playing music and publishing music. I also find time for my son and daughter and their spouses (everyone is a professional musician!) and my seven grandchildren. I definitely am enjoying my life at the present time! Now that we have the virus with us, all of my orchestra and wedding work is cancelled, so my husband of almost 8 years (Joel Lish, a violist/conductor) whom I first met in 1963!) and I have been putting on viola and cello concerts every Sunday afternoon - we started on the front porch on Easter Sunday, but after a few weeks of increasingly hot sun on the front porch, we moved to the back patio. iends who play violin and bass and guitar. We are all socially distanced, of course!!! An actor/singer who lives across the street, Josh Finkel, whom we never even met before our concerts started, now joins us every week for a couple of songs, and posts everything on his Facebook page. So we have met many very nice neighbors and are keeping very busy, even if we aren't working much as musicians these days. Now that the virus is more under control, thanks to those fabulous vaccines, our music work is starting to return. We've slowed down our patio concerts, but we're busier than ever with preparing music arrangements in our computers for publication at Last Resort Music Publishing, Inc. By the way, a music store in Casper carries some of our publications. Although I married Joel Lish, I have not changed my name again. I am and will always be Jan Kelley. If anyone tries to contact me, please identify yourself as NCHS '55! (And can you believe there's a Kelly Walsh High School now? I'm so happy that wonderful man has been honored in this way!)

Diana Ray-Goodman and I were treated to a fabulous post-rehearsal feast at Araksia’s this morning - it was incredibly delicious!!!
Just call me Farmer Jan! The grapefruit tree, after a fantastic season, is finally down to the last 1 or 2. Now it’s on to apricots and apples - I have to fight off the squirrels and birds for these!
No, I didn’t grow these incredibly huge and beautiful zucchini - Joel’s son gave them to us!

I love all of the pink azaleas in front of my house every spring!
We've been having a wonderful time preparing this piano quartet by Richard Strauss!
