Jan's Story
School
The teacher who inspired me the most is Mr. Powers. He was great. I understand he passed on. He made quite an impression on me. The saddest day in Canarsie for me was the day Mike Ferrari fell and hit his head outside the gym and died a few weeks later. Mike and I lived on the same block and grew up together. We were frineds since we were 5. May he rest in peace.
I had many crushes in Canarsie, too many to go into in this venue, besides, I noticed at least one lady I had a crush on is a member of classmates.
I was co editor-in-chief of the class of 1975 Looking Glass yearbook, probalby my fondest memory was that experience of working on the yearbook.
College
I went to Clark University in Worcester, MA. My freshman roommate was a guy who had EXTREMELY long hair, dropped a little too much acid in his day, and was fairly spacey. Turns out he was first cousin to old friends of my family, and I had met him many years earlier.
I lived in an apartment off campus with three roommates Junior and senior year. I am still in touch with two of my old college roommates and two other close friends from Clark. S...Expand for more
everal years after we moved out, I heard about a fire that occurred in the apartment as a result of the space heaters they had there. A student died in that fire.
Also, we lived directly above 3 -4 girls. One of them was going out with this guy on campus (I knew both of them). They eventually got married, had kids. My first wife and I met them at a neighbor's party. Turns out, my neighbor grew up with the husband. My wife became good friends with his wife and they are now neighbors.
It's a SMALL world...
Workplace
I started out in retail consumer electronic sales, then went to wholesale working for Hitachi and Panasonic. I changed careers during my divorce (wanted to start an entirely new life), and got a certificate in software development. I did some development work, then became an independent contractor, wound up working for PeopleSoft in '98/'99 and then went back to contracting. a few years ago, Pfizer hired me as a contractor to run their Global support and deployment teams for their R&D supply chain applications. I am now a sr. mgr. of consulting services for EMC Corporation based out of Hopkinton, MA
