Jane's Story

I am now a widow with a divorced daughter (31) and a son (34) who has served in two conflicts, Iraqi Freedom and Afghanistan. My husband of 31 years died from 23 brain tumors. That is why he is so fat and bald in the picture. He died a month after it was taken. I miss him very much. We owned a business for 10 years sold it and I retired. My husband continued in the same line of business until his diagnosis. He died four months later. I share my home with 2 dogs, which I find comforting. I lost my two little ones in three months apart this summer, that was very hard, the bright side? I am closer to new carpet! I suffered severe heath issues a year after my husband died ( I guess I tried to join him) and now suffer some permanent damage. Screw the golden years. I still live in Tulsa and probably will stay here. My parents and brother are all gone, just have my kids left. I always wanted to be a mermaid when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a dumb idea. As it turns out, they were right. These days I drink wine, and every now and then, a beer, but only craft types. I am a beer snob, but not much of a wine snob. My dad and my brother. They were both very stubborn men who overcame a lot of challenges. My dad was a very honest, ethical man, my brother, not so much. I loved him anyway. They are both gone now, and I miss they every day. I love old classic movies, my dogs, cooking, my faith, helping others to a fault, cutting our newspaper articles. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel my master bath and add on a outdoor kitchen. My dream home would be on a beach. If I won $100 million, I'd give 75% of it to charities, then spend the rest on investments, trusts for family and ...Expand for more
that beach house. In college, I lived in a dorm, it was a nightmare, I joined ADII, it was a nightmare, I am retired and I like it. My best friend would tell you I'm normal, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as eccentric. I share me home now with just Shelby and Jada, a Weimaraner and an American Staffordshire Bull Terrier, which I find hairy. I won the athletic supporter of the year from the swim team at Edison HS, given to me by the swim team. It was a bronzed jock strap. My husband made me throw it out after a few years. It was the only award I ever got, sniff sniff In 10 years, I hope to be on a beach. I'm going to get there by living cheaply and investing well. I met my best friend in Norway when our boys were babies, mine was 8 months and her's was a newborn. That was 33 years ago. We shared a love of classic books and movies. and we had the boys, our husbands worked for the same company, and we followed each other through the years. We live a mile apart now. She is like my older sister. Through Facebook, I keep in touch with my best friend from Memphis Marsha, who lives in Tennessee, but not Memphis. I located another, Ivy, she lives in Texas now, that was good to know. Still haven't found Mary Evelyn, last I heard she was in Texas. Would like to touch base, just because we had a lot of good times. I have a granddaughter now, a true blessing, I wish my husband, Phil could see her, Maybe he can. So, I have joined for three months, just to explore a bit, can't help as I age, what has happened to classmates, and childhood friends. I can find out about the ones here in Tulsa, and some in Memphis, but hard to find out about my first ones, in Oradell, NJ.
