Janet's Story
Today I find that the mirror tells me that I am getting "old"...that thing where you wonder "when did that happen" and never expose the whole body to a full length mirror to prevent going into shock..., but my mind fails to acknowledge that reality and keeps me young. I hope all my friends and classmates find the same thing works for them.
I retired in December of 2012 following a serious cervical spine surgery that I was lucky to survive. I worked as a Courtroom Clerk doing primarily Family Law beginning in 1989 in Santa Cruz County and had worked for the Clerk-Recorder's Office in Sierra County for a number of years prior to that. I moved to Santa Cruz County when my folks began having a number of medical issues (they are now both deceased) and to attend Cabrillo College to finish some education that I had to delay because of marriage and raising kids. I thoroughly enjoyed working for the Courts and must say that every time I thought I had heard it all, I hadn't. It was a very interesting though stressful job.
I am single, happy, and recently move into my 3 bedroom, 2 bath home in Fernley, Nevada. I have great friends and family around me and am enjoying life. . I hope to do a little traveling in the future and possibly go to Elkhart, Kansas where my mother was born (I was 6 the last time I was there) and meet a whole slew of first and second cousins that I have only heard about. It would also give me a chance to see some of the country that I barely remember. If I ever win the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes like they keep promising me, I will get to see a lot more of the country.
When I left Palo Alto and Cubberley, I went to Chico State, ended up getting married, and had 2 wonder...Expand for more
ful children...Robert in 1967 and Megan in 1969. My son works for Sierra County in the Road Maintenance Dept. now after many years as a heavy equipment operator and running snow plows in the winter for private contractors (plowing is probably his favorite thing he does even now for the County). My daughter is an X-ray Tech and Medical Assistant for the Palo Alto Medical Foundation in Santa Cruz. She is now at the Main Clinic doing Mammograms 2 days a week and working at the satellite clinic in Scotts Valley doing x-rays . My son never married and is a wonderful man and very good to me. He has a wonderful fiancée and maybe they will even get married in my lifetime!. My daughter is married and has 2 children. from her first marriage. My granddaughter, Tessa, graduated in 2014 and my grandson, Max, graduated in 2017....I miss those cuddly babies, but they are beautiful, smart, and wonderful kids.
I loved living in Palo Alto and attending Van Auken, Wilbur, and Cubberley. Those were probably the best years and memories of my life before giving birth to my children. I am surprised at how many people remember me from the years at Cubberley every time I have attended a reunion. Heading the planning for our 50th was a lot of hard work and truly amazing. So good to see so many were able to come and share memories. Now to work towards the next one the sooner the better!
