janet's Story
I received a BA in Spanish from Potsdam State University in 1972, then continued on to Mississippi State University (my father’s alma mater) to receive an Masters in Education with certification in regular classes K - 6 and all classes of Special Education. I taught Special Ed. Classes grades 5-8 for 7 years before the birth of my son Michael. Two and a half years later my other son Eric was born. My husband Nick and I were both very athletic and involved our sons in many sports, including skiing, biking, swimming, rollerblading, ski jumping, bicycle racing and BMX racing. competed in bicycle racing all around the Northeast and won many trophies and awards. My husband and I raced in the Empire State Games several years and won many gold, silver, and bronze medals. Since running, biking, and swimming were my top sports, I participated I triathlons. I ended up teaching Spanish at 3 different colleges in NYork and many Adult Ed. And elementary ESL classes. I have been so blessed to have had so many opportunities and memories during my lifetime. I retired in 2012 but have continued to substitute teach - why stop being active as it definitely keeps you young!!
