janice's Story

Time flies! It was 1968 an now it is 2021! And, whatever we thought was lousy before has certainly blindsided us all, world-wide, by COVID-19! I don't know about you all, but for almost the last year, I've been working from home and am bug-eyed by the computer from work and doing virtual work, all of which is and never has been on my 'wish list'. Since graduating highschool, I returned to school and that kept me busy and out of trouble for a number of years. I ended up in social work and have been working at Baycrest Health Care Sciences and now into my 36th year! That is hard to believe because I thought I'd stay a year or two and boom--it's 2021 and I'm still there! I am thinking about retiring and know it is going to be sometime this year--just when -- well it's wait and see with COVID. As a student, I could sleep all day--that's pretty much done as the older you get, the less sleep you seem to get and then it's too late for 'catch-up' time. I've only been to a couple of get-togethers and it was great seeing some of my peers that I haven't seen for ye...Expand for more
ars. When the get-togethers are up and running again, I hope to return and see more people. It is really sad when you hear of those who have passed on---former students and neighbours, friends and family. It makes you think. I really enjoyed seeing my old friend, Linda Green. Linda was a hoot in HS and certainly not wild by today's standards, but somehow I was alwasy in trouble and spent consdierable time growing up in 'my room' as I recall. I think I was grounded more often than not--oh, the good ole days!!! Boy have things changed in schools. I did some teaching for a while in university and at college and am very thankful I went to school when I did. It is a different world in so many ways. I miss Leaside and have never felt at home in Scarborough--thus I am planning on moving east hopefully facing the St. Lawrence River. I've not been good at keeping up and tend to put things off thinking there is more time...well I'd be wrong about this. I wish those reading this, health, happiness peace and a lot of good times ahead. Best wishes, Jan Boyd
