Janice's Story

Life After graduation, I started in the fall at RI Community College in Warwick, graduating with an AA in Liberal Arts, emphasis in Special Education. In between my two years there I got married. My husband surprised me by joining the Air Force three months after we married, and soon we were off to Texas and California, and eventually to Crete, Greece. My first daughter was born while we were stationed in Crete, but I had to be airlifted on a medical military plane to the Air Force hospital in Wiesbaden, Germany, where most of the expectant mothers went. We returned to California temporarily for more of my husband's military schooling, then returned to Crete. My second daughter was born there, but this time right in the city of Iraklion, where the obstetrician and his American nurse/wife were at the...Expand for more
local hospital. My husband applied for officer training and got sent to South Dakota to work in the missile silos. He applied to become an air attache to work in an embassy and got selected for that position at the US Embassy in New Delhi, India. We were there from 1991-1994. What wonderful memories we had! Upon retiring from the Air Force, we ended up in Northern Virginia. Shortly after settling there, I began a career with the Federal Government at the Department of State. Now, in fall of 2007, we have relocated back to our home state of RI. One of my passions is participating in community theatre productions, both on stage and behind the scenes. When not involved with theatre, I enjoy attending plays and musical performances. Now my time is spent adjusting to life in RI and changing my career path.
