Janice's Story

Since graduating from Morse H.S. in 1964, I moved back east to New Jersey (no jokes please), and attended x-ray school at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, N.J. I graduated from Mountainside in 1968, and my next stop was Princeton, NJ. For the next 3 years I worked as an x-ray technologist at Princeton Hospital, and partied at Princeton University (it wasn't co-ed back then). In 1971, I met my husband Albert on a blind date and we were married 3 months later. We were married for 32 years until Al suddenly passed away in June of 2003 from Acute Myloid Leukemia. I have 2 sons: Chris, age 49, & Craig, 45. For 20 years we lived along the Delaware River, in White Township, which is just outside of Belvidere, N.J., and rented out our house in Phillipsburg, NJ. It was great living along the river, except during floods. In fact, in 1996, we had the pleasure of removing four feet of the beautiful Delaware River from our basement. Although, it could have been worse. In 1955, the water was six feet deep in the living room. We never thought we'd get hit with anything worse than 1996 until Hurricane Ivan hit in Sept. 2004. This was followed by even worse flooding in April of 2005. Needless to say, we no longer live along the river. Chris was living in San Diego, CA, when Al passed away, and Craig was away at college in Bloomsburg, PA, and they both decided to come back home to live with me. But after the floods, the company that owned the river cottages decided that they were going to tear them all down and we had to move back into our house in Phillipsburg and spent the next six months doing extensive remodeling work. For 3 years Craig was the winemaker and production manager at a local winery just outside of Belvidere, NJ. He then move on to be the head wine...Expand for more
maker at 1,000 Island Winery in Alexandria Bay NY, and purchased his first house in the nearby town of Clayton, NY. In January of 2013, he accepted the position as winemaker at Tug Hill Vineyards, and moved to Watertown, NY On June 30, 2013 he married Julie at Belhurst Castle, on the shore of Lake Seneca, in Geneva, NY, and in 2016, he and Julie had a little girl whom they named Isabella Grace. In 2017 Craig finally made it to his dream location of the Finger Lakes, which is the premier winemaking area in the State of New York, and they moved to Canandaigua, NY, where he was the head winemaker at Hunt Country Vineyards. He stayed with Hunt Country for 4 years before he accepted the position of head winemaker at Fox Run Vineyards, which is one of the top wineries in the State of NY. Chris continued living with me and opened an antique store in Phillipsburg, NJ which was doing pretty well until the economy tanked in 2008. He then moved to Stockertown, PA and was a sales representative and marketing advisor for Stockertown Beverage in Stockertown, Pa., until he eventually worked his way up to the vice-president of the company. Stockertown Beverage is a distributor for imported, specialty, and microbrewery beers in the state of Pennsylvania. After 35 years at Warren Hospital, I finally retired in September of 2016 (just 2 months short of my 70th birthday) and often wonder why I didn't do it sooner. Well, it's been 59 years since I graduated, and my son, Chris, and I flew out to San Diego for my 50th class reunion in 2014. My first time back since 1970, and I can't believe how everything has changed. Thank goodness Chris did all the driving because I would have been lost after the first mile.
