Janis's Story
I hope my classmates remember me as friendly and helpful.
I always wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, they were right.
I love to sew, repair things around home, pet one of my cats sitting on my lap and hear them purr.
"Side Show" for Senior Follies.
If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have a jacket in case it is cool, a bottle of water to sip on, and something to work on while I have down time to be able to deal with the day-to-day.
My earthy hero is my Mom. My inspiration comes from my Savior, Jesus. Many ministers inspire me, and it's odd that a Jewish man, Dennis Prager, also inspires me.
Since Coolidge I lived in California for part of a year before starting ASU, after graduating I lived in Phoenix for 15 years and then Mesa.
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Margie Sizer, because we were close friends from 8th-12th grades.
Phoenix Suns, American Idol, two cats, Bernina sewing machine, computer with internet!
Finding my daughter who I gave up at birth for adoption when she was 35!
If I could improve my home, I'd remodel the floors and add on a skylight and double-pane windows. My dream home would be uncluttered.
What I learned from having children:
Love beyond measure!
My Home Ec teacher, I think her name was Lieghtel (spelling?).
If I won $100 million, I'd give much of it to my children and grandchildren, then spend the rest on traveling with my husband, church and other causes I want to support and regular maid service.
Yes I lived in a dorm most of my time at college, and was a PI PHI. I worked in the dorm cafeteria, ASU Purchasing Dept., and at The College Inn. I sure did a lot of walking at college!
I am truly happy now, with my husband Jim, anywhere we happen to be. Well, maybe living in a home that doesn't have as many HOA rules!!
My current age is 62. When I was 12, I thought that people my ...Expand for more
age now would be looing forward to retiring. I was so completely right.
I substitute teach occassionally. All I really ever aspired to be was a wife and a mother.
When I was young I would say I was going to marry my brother, I didn't know about sex then and later found out I couldn't do that.
My best friend would tell you I'm very unorganized but creative, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as stunning and "has it all together".
I think I still dress fairly fashionable, but in larger sizes now.
I worked at a foundry as a purchasing assistand, had to wear a hard had and steel toe shoes with metatarsal guards.
I have a copy of the book I compiled about my step-grandmother, Jo Lee Rodke Storm on my living room coffee table, and I was given a small trophy for putting together the reunion for our class in 1995.
You get one do-over. What do you do differently? Don't give up my daughter for adoption, keep her and raise her up myself at all costs!
In 10 years, I hope to be actively enjoying my children and grandchildren. I'm going to get there by traveling more to Colorado and Tenneessee.
The friends I have had the longest in my life are my Mother and my sibblings, we remain close now even though we live many miles away - email and phone calls fill the void, but seeing them in person is always the best!
I already surprised them with finding my daughter and completing the book I worked on for so many years!
My first job was at babysitting, where I got paid I can't remember to watch Jim and Bob Urton. What I remember most about it is they begged me to let them tie me up for fun one night, then went to bed and left me tied up.
I lived on a small dairy farm in Michigan, I had my own calf and did chores at the barn after school. I rode a bus to school miles from the farm. All was good, but sadly my father died, so we had to sell the farm - that is when I moved to AZ to be near grandparents.
