Janna's Story
Life
Married to Jim (an environmental type guy) with one daughter, Katlynn. We also have a nephew, Nathan, who spends a lot of time with us. I posted some recent pictures here. I hope all of my old friends and classmates will want to keep in touch and I look forward to "catching up" with you sometime. I live way up in Northwestern Illinois right by the Iowa border. I have not been to any reunions since our 5 year high school reunion and rarely make it back to Monticello, although I would really like to visit more often. Even though I was a transplant in 9th grade from Pennsylvania, I considered Monticello my hometown and I've never forgotten all the good people I met there. There were tough times, but I came out of it ok and I'm very happy now. Being the preacher's kid was not easy. For all of you who were afraid to invite me to your parties, don't worry I made up for it in college! (a lot). anyway.....
I attended college at Millikin, where I earned a BA in political science. I ...Expand for more
was a juvenile probation officer in Champaign for a brief couple of years and then moved north to be a caseworker in foster care and adoption. I decided to go back to school and earned a master's in social work in 2005. I am preparing now to take the exam for licensure as a licensed clinical social worker. I have spent the past four years working as a counselor in a residential treatment facility for adolescents. So, even though my early plans were for something political or legal, I ended up a social worker, which as it turns out, is also very political and legal. I remain a faithful Democrat and always have my eye on the micro- and macro-political scenes because old habits die hard and one has to keep oneself informed.
My favorite thing to do though is to be at home in the evening to tuck in my precious child and just be a great mom to her. I am raising a very assertive, creative, and loving child whom I hope does not have to struggle as much as I did to be and love herself.
