Jean's Story
Ok, so here's the whole sordid story....Brace yourself for a wild ride!
After High School, I got pregnant right away, that summer in fact. My handsome son, William, was born May 6, 1985. I spent the first 18 months of his life just trying to decide what to do. I went to Long Beach College of business while pregnant with him and returned after he was born. I then landed a full-time job with AFSA Data Corp as a Customer Service Rep. Then I lost that job because I had too many absences within a year's time, some of which was related to drug use. Yep...I was caught in that trap. So, from about 1986-1992 I held a few odd job and battled drug addiction off and on. I gave birth to my beautiful daughter Rachel on Dec 8, 1989, but still could not quite kick the drug habit until one day I woke up and realized I could lose my kids and my life. Then, on Jan 19, 1992, I hopped a Greyhound Bus to Coos Bay, OR while having a miscarriage. Once there, I completely turned my life around. I quit drugs cold turkey with the help of my Savior, Jesus Christ. I gave my life back to God and haven't turned back since. I still made some really stupid decisions with my love life though. I married the father of my two kids, Frederick Sykes (Brother of Pam Sykes), in August 1992, after he followed me to Oregon. A month later, he left me for another woman. I went to work full-time as a caregiver for various places for a while until 1997 when I got a job at Inland Point Assisted Living. Then after 4 1/2 years of separation, I remarried the father of my children. That lasted only a little longer than the first time. After 6 months, I had to put him out because he was cheating again. Shortly thereafter, I met a guy online who lived in Oregon City. We dated almost a year, then got married in July 1999. He, unfortunately, was an alcoholic. He loved the drink more than he loved me or God. Though he did teach me that some men can be quite sweet even if they can't stop the addiction. I divorced ...Expand for more
him after he cheated on me in 2001. In 2002, I met the most wonderful man ever! He was studying to be a pastor and he was funny and sweet. He lived in Bend, Oregon. We dated for only about 6 months before we got married in July 2002. We are very happy together! He has a son by a previous marriage who gets along great with my children. We also have one child together. Jack III was born June 11, 2003. While living in Bend, I have held a few jobs. I went back to caregiving after being an Activity Director for my last 4 years at Inland Point. Then, after little Jack was born, I got another job as an Activity Director/Social Service Director at Cascade View Nursing Center. Then I went to Bend Villa Retirement as a front desk attendant. I later became the Administrative Assistant there. I quit working outside the home in Sep 2006 so I can home school my son and do some daycare for other people. I now own God's Kids DayCare. I am finally happy. I never thought I would be the preacher's wife, but I absolutely love it! The wild child has been tamed, to some extend. :-)I still love to have fun and be spontaneous, but now I like to do things legally and morally right. I never knew it could be so much fun in being a Christian. Life is awesome! God bless you all!
Nov 29, 2008- Update...life is still awesome, the kids are all fine and hubby and I are still very much in love. I still homeschool my son and run a DayCare business in my home. I have reconnected with several class of '84 Alumni and enjoying hearing everyone's story.
April 7, 2009- Update. . .Everything is still awesome, though the economy is in the toilet. We have been affected somewhat financially, but we won't let it get us down! Our eldest child is a manager at McDonald's, our daughter is attending U of O, our son, Gage, graduates in June, and our youngest son, Jack III, is learning well in spite of my teaching abilities. God is still on the throne and we trust Him to get us through the rough times ahead!
