Jeanne's Story
Life
Hi! Well, Since High school, I went to college for a year in Boca Raton, Fl and spent most of the time at the beach. After that I came back to N.J and continued to get into and out of trouble for about another year. I straightened my life out around my 21st birthday, and haven't gotten into any REAL trouble since.(Other than a few speeding tickets.) I got married and divorced in 1991. I went to cardiovascular training in Morristown. I moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1996, and was there until January, 2004 when I moved to Atlantic Beach, Fl. I started working for a company called Boston Scientific in the EP division in 2002 and I travel all around the Southeast area of the country, and sometimes California where it is based.
Sadly, This job ended in January of 2007. I tried to work in a hospital again but found I just was not cut out to be tangled in red tape while also trying to help people. I took a huge risk and around the time my honey needed quadruple spinal fusion surgery, I quit my job and started to look for PRN work. Which fortunately I found. Lots of it. It seems there is a small shortage of knowledgable people in my field willing to work crazy hours in crazy places. The flexible schedule has been good.
Ron and I broke up in September of 2009 but still remain friends. In January and February of 2011 I started getting closer and closer with an old family friend (I secretly had a crush on him when I was younger). We decided to give a relationship a try despite the fact that we had both declared ourselves chronically single. It just seemed too right. So far so good!! We are very much in love and we are each just as strange as the other!!!! Hee Hee Hee!!
One of my PRN jobs is working for a former competitor named St Jude Medical going aroundto hospitals helping to make 3-D computer recreations of the inside of the heart chambers. I also teach hospital staff members how to do this as well as teaching the basics of EP.
Life was tough there for alittle while after I lost that one job, but it is getting better. I should have learned by now that I cannot try to fit my hexagonal peg into a square hole to try to conform. I have never been good at that try as I may. Things were scary aroundthe time of Ron's surgery and a few months afterward, but finally getting better now. I live in Atlantic Beach, Fl now. I am traveling a lot but only in Florida instead of having to fly around. It was exciting the first few years, but then I would wake up in another city and not know anyone and have to leave at the end of the day again. It got old but I am very grateful for the experience. A big part of what I still do is teaching people how to use our equipment and how to understand the heart. I still feel so sorry for the teachers who had me in the past. Teachi...Expand for more
ng concepts and function is sometimes difficult although the people I get to teach are far more motivated than I was in high school. I guess it is Karma.
I always like living by the ocean, but with the recent hurricane seasons, it is pretty exciting. I love the area where I live and am in a committed relationship with - of all people- someone I knew from Kittatinny. We are both animal lovers, but recently I think we have just gone overboard. We have 3 snakes and 2 dogs. My beloved kitty- Stevie Ray passed away earlier this year at the age of 16. It is like a petting zoo. Needless to say, we have become pretty close with two different vets. Take care to all my friends, and I hope you're all doing well. I would love to hear from people. And for those who are "friends of Bill" also, I would love to hear fromyou- We can get to know each other again.
Workplace
I worked at Newton Memorial hospital on and off for a few years and finally decided to take a risk and go back to a cardiovascular technical program. I then worked at Morristown Memorial Hospital in the cardiac cath lab for a few years until I was trying to open my car door one February and needed a blow torch in order to get all the ice off of it. So, I moved to Florida where I spent a grueling year and a half working in a privately owned cath lab and it was horrible and politically corrupt. So, as soon as I had the opportunity I went to work at Broward General medical center where I worked in the cath lab most of the time and the EP lab part of the time. It was an interesting segue into the world of EP. after 2 1/2 years there I managed to get a full time EP position at North Ridge Medical Center where I finally learned enough about EP to be valuable. 3 Years later, I was getting bored with the less complicated cases and training all the new people. However, the field of EP was growing by leaps and bounds, and one of the reps from my company suggested I apply there to do what I was already doing, only for a company instead of a hospital. I Started working for Boston Scientific in September (I got the job the day after my birthday) of 2002. It was a great job. The traveling was difficult, but other than that, I thought it was my dream job. November 2006, I lost a good part of my hearing in my right ear. Partially due to the frequent flying I had to do in my job. The dilemma came- is there any job worth going deaf over? In January 2007 My company announced a restructuring on a Thursday, and I was let go on the following Monday. I guess the answer was NO. So, I have a job managing an EP lab here in Jacksonville, and have gotten my hearing back and everytime I hear about flight delays and the rising percentage of lost luggage, I am a little bit more grateful for having been temporarily grounded.
