Jeff's Story

Life I've been living in L.A. ever since leaving Deerfield for USC. Married in '88, dad in '89, divorced in '91, and hoping to repeat that process sometime in the not-too-distant future, sans divorce! As I always have, I still love music. Playing music, writing music, listening to music, seeing live music. Except these days, I now also get to meet and interview musicians, which is usually pretty cool and inspiring. I wasn't much of an athlete while at DHS, but I've become very fitness-conscious over the years, especially after I nearly destroyed my leg in a motorcycle accident. While I haven't gone the tofu-and-sprouts route (hey, I'm still a Chicagoan at heart... I still love my meat and pizza!), I do work out at least 4 or 5 times a week. For a while, I was pretty active in doing triathlons, and lately I've been giving some thought to doing that again... I've somehow managed to keep at least one job in the radio industry without a day of unemployment since I was 19. Spent the summer of 2000 hanging out with my friends on the U.S. softball team, going to Sydney to share in their gold medal celebration... an amazing experience! I've done a lot of traveling, for both business and fun... taken a lot of great pictures along the way as I rediscovered my childhood love of photography. My daughter is now just a year away from graduating high school herself, which is pretty mind-blowing. I don't feel anywhere near old enough to have a kid getting ready for college! I'm an uncle to 2 nieces and 2 nephews in the Chicago area, all of whom are absolutely adorable. There's more to the family story, but that's for another time and p...Expand for more
lace... Workplace My career in the radio industry started in high school (How many of you remember the "Deerfield News Source" show on WVVX? Then again, how many of you remember WVVX??)... it really hasn't stopped since. Internship at B-96 in Chicago, a year at USC's student radio station, and then I actually started getting paid! Started out at a network called Transtar, moonlighted at a little station up in Simi Valley, CA, then got my first full-time job as the morning show producer for KBIG in Los Angeles. From there, went to an extremely cool station called "Pirate Radio" (to this day, still my most enjoyable work experience), and when that went away, joined the Westwood One Radio Network, working on syndicated shows by Scott Shannon and Casey Kasem. After that, I put that journalism degree to work at a radio industry newspaper... after a few years, started moonlighting again as the writer of a show called the Fox Kids Countdown. It's gone through some name changes and focus changes since then, but I'm still there. (It's now called Fox All Access, and I go to work on the 20th Century Fox movie lot every day!) After the newspaper job ended, I also spent some time writing and producing a show called "The Countdown," a hip-hop/R&B show that aired on radio stations worldwide. (Once, in a pinch, I even got to guest-host the show. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine I'd be heard on the radio in Africa... but I was!) So that's it... right now I'm still working on the Fox radio show, and I've taken a few meetings this year as I try to get some TV and movie projects off the ground. Keep those fingers crossed for me!
