Jeff's Story

Life Married 38 (1979) years to Liz (Heck) of Snohomish, WA: we have four children (2 girls & 2 boys: Sarah - 1982, Thomas - 1984, James - 1987 & Michelle - 1990; Now have two granddaughters (Audrey - July 2013 and Bridget - June 2015), two grandsons (Andy - December 2015 and Brody - May 2009), and two more grandchildren on the way (due Dec '17 & Feb '18). Both sons and youngest daughter married with their own families now. Our oldest daughter now living on her own in her 1970s house that is 40 miles away. Younger sonny and his wife Beth are both Captains in the USAF. Beth is a USAF Family Medicine Physician in her first year of residency at Fort Belvior Medical Center. James is in a joint USAF/Army project at Fort Meade. They and their son Andy live on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling across the river from downtown Washington D.C. Older son (Thomas) is married to Melissa, they are the parents of our two granddaughters, and are expecting another daughter (our 5th grandchild) in December. Youngest (second) daughter is married to Jerry. Both are fast food restaurant General Managers [Firehouse Subs & Sonic Drive-In]. Jerry has a 8-year old son who is now our step-grandson (our 4th grandchild). M&J are expecting a baby (our 6th grandchild) in February of next year. Oldest (daughter) came back to live with us back in 2010. She was going to stay only two year while getting a second college degree in Portland, OR, but that turned into 6.5 years! She finally bought her own house and moved out in January of this year. Along with her 3 dogs, 5 cats, and 5 GPs. Oh, happy day....YES! Liz is a First Grade school teacher for the Evergreen School District in Vancouver, WA. She looks forward to retiring with in the next six years. I am semi-retired, and currently drive a school bus (yes, once again - first time was during my college days in the late 1970s) for the same school district. I was a Professor of Business at Concordia University - Portland, OR: before that, worked as a Project Manager and Senior Change/Configuration Manager for Boeing Commercial Airplanes Group in Everett, WA; was the Owner of MacMaxim Computer Service, Everett, WA; and from 1975 to 1992 served in the USAF in various positions as Director/Chief of Financial, Contract and Project Management in several joint USAF/NASA programs. We have lived in NE, TX, IL, ND, MA, CA and FL from 1975 thru 1992. Since USAF retirement in 1992, we have lived in Washington State (1992-2000 just north of Seattle, WA) (2000 - present in Vancouver, WA...just north of Portland, OR) with all these crazy liberal tree-huggers. Program manager for both PC and mainframe financial management software development efforts. DEC 88 - FEB 90 Chief, Plans and Schedules Branch, Advanced Launch Systems Program Office, Space Systems Division, Los Angeles AFB, CA. - Responsible for all program office cost estimates, and analyzing monthly cost and schedule reports from three contractors. Managed a three million dollar scheduling program integrating information from the Program Office's 23 prime and sub-contractors. AUG 86 - NOV 88 Chief, Information Management, Civil Engineering Laboratory, Tyndall AFB, FL. - Responsible for cost and schedule information in project management reviews and reports. Managed the technical report publication process and technical library. Supervised staff of ten technical and business management personnel. FEB 86 - AUG 86 Commander, Headquarters Squadron Section, HQ Western Space and Missile Center, Vandenberg AFB, CA. - Exercised command and administrative supervision for over 650 Assigned personnel on Vandenberg AFB, CA. Counseled assigned personnel on financial irresponsibility, drug/alcohol rehabilitation programs, infractions on civil and military laws. Provided health, recreation, morale and welfare programs of assigned personnel. Supervised staff of seven administrative personnel. JUL 85 - JAN 86 Chief, Test and Evaluation, 6595th Shuttle Test Group, Vandenberg AFB, CA. - Managed the West Coast Space Shuttle Launch Site's test and evaluation program. Launch site primary representative for NASA's Manned Flight Awareness panel, and Astronaut site familiarization program. Supervised staff of five test and evaluation engineers. FEB 84 - JUN 85 Chief, Program Planning, 6595th Shuttle Test Group, Vandenberg AFB, CA. - Managed the Commander's Management Information Center, all Vandenberg Launch Site (VLS) Program Schedules, Program Management Review briefing operations, and Program Management Plans, Program Management Directives, and launch site Letters of Agreement/Understanding. Supervised staff of four business management personnel. AUG 82 - JAN 84 Manager, VLS Program Integrated Schedules, Program Control Division, Shuttle Activation Task Force (SATAF), Vandenberg AFB, CA. - Evaluated four contractors' cost and schedule reporting systems for $500 million ground support systems contract. Responsible for all cost and schedule information in all program management reviews and reports. JUN 79 - AUG 82 Acquisition Project Officer/Plans-Schedules, Spanish Systems Directorate, Electronic Systems Division, Hanscom AFB, MA. - Managed Program Office's travel and supply fund accounts. Performed Life Cycle Cost analysis and developed two annual budget submissions for the Spanish Northwest Radar project ($20 million effort). Responsible for the management of the Program Office's scheduling program.
