Jeff's Story

Life Life? - It's sort of a vague question to start this off with. At the moment I'm just a wandering insomniac who stumbled onto this website and recognized some names. It's funny how not sleeping can lead your mind to far-away places and long-ago times. Also leads one to wax poetic in ways that will seem more ridiculous in the morning, apparantly. So, how about the more straight forward, "What have you been doing?" route. After high school, I went east (a little) and spent 4 years at Idaho State. Not very pretty, but I had a great time and it got me to the next step. After that it was off to Seattle for 5 years of med. school, which is usually only 4 years (don't ask). Loved the city, hated school. Then it felt like it was time to pick up and try something completely different. I loaded up my little pick-up and drove across the country to a studio apartment I had rented sight unseen over the internet to start my internship and psychiatry residency at Cambridge Hospital, which is just across the river (Charles) from Boston. (Yup, I'm a shrink. I'm always surprised at how few people are surprised to learn that - or whether or not it's a good thi...Expand for more
ng that they aren't surprised). I loved the city, loved the work and made some fantastic friends. After that I moved to a small psychiatric hospital at the western end of the state to continue my work in combining medications with intense long-term psychotherapy. If anyone really cares that much, you can look the place up at "austenriggs.org". I started as a fellow (fancy name for 'you're still a student...shouldn't you have a job by now?) and now I'm on the staff. I met a wonderful woman a couple years ago and we were married December 30, 2005. Although I hadn't been married before, I found myself with a whole family as she brought 2 wonderful girls with her, now ages 8 & 11. So, this past year has been full of learning and adjusting for me, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm feeling happy and settled, maybe for the first time in my life; this is, after all, the first time since high school that I've kept the same job and not moved for more than a year. The long, cold New England winter is on its way, though, and it would be awfully nice to hear from people that I haven't had contact with for more than 15 years in some cases. Best to all.
