Jeff's Story
School
I remember in sixth grade deciding that I wanted to be an engineer. I don't know how I even knew what that was. Soon after, I refined that to .... automotive engineer. By eleventh grade, I knew that I wanted to go to Georgia Tech to get a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering and then later work for a german automotive company.
If I had to do high school again, I would probably try to be more social. And I wish I had stayed in touch with friends more. It will be good to attend some reunions to catch up.
College
I went straight into Georgia Tech in 1984 to study the German language and major in mechanical engineering. My purpose was to qualify to be an engineer for a German automotive company (in Germany). While I was there, I was the Team Manager for GT Motorsports, a student organization that competes in the annual Formula SAE competition. I got my bachelors degree in 1990 and then worked at several automotive companies such as Honda and Chrysler before moving in July of 1995 to Heil...Expand for more
bronn, Germany to work on the Mercedes Smart Car as a Designer. I highly recommend traveling to Europe for anyone that hasn't done this yet. And living there allowed me to experience even more of their culture. Although I got really homesick sometimes, I would do it again if the situation was right.
Workplace
Since graduating from North Clayton Senior High in 1984, I went straight into Georgia Tech and eventually got a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering in 1990. I also took two years of German language. Since then, I have worked as a Designer or Engineer in the automotive field designing either interior or exterior components. I have most enjoyed when I worked in 1995 and 1996 in Germany for Mercedes on the Smart car. And in 2002 and 2003, I designed the doors for the Ford GT race car. And now I am working as a Studio Engineer for Chrysler, which means that I negotiate between engineering and styling on upcoming vehicles....and they pay me for this!?! Of course, I am living out my dream career-wise.
