Jeff's Story

I know some of my old friends will remember me as a nice, quiet, somewhat shy guy, but in reality I was very outgoing around close friends, and had a great sense of humor. In the old days I would have gone out with friends to blow off steam, but now I like to work on my computer, listen to music, and read to relax. The wildest thing I did in school was when my brother, and my step-nephew and I snuck into the pool one night to go swimming. We found a plywood sheet leaning against the wall, so we threw it into the water and tried using it as a surfboard. After about a half hour, I climbed up the lifeguard stand and saw a cop car pulling up behind the gym. I yelled, "Cops!" We all jumped over the fence, but before we could get too far, another cop headed us off at the pass. My step-nephew didn't go to Foothill, so he didn't get in trouble, but my brother and I had to go see the Vice-Principal the following Monday. We got our hands slapped, and were told not to do it again. The VP was more concerned with the school's insurance not covering us if we got hurt. I used to live to play and watch football, but now that I'm older, it's not much of a priority anymore. I'm a big San Francisco 49ers fan, and I like USC, Alabama and Georgia for college ball. I'm also a Foothill Mustangs football/basketball fan. I try to go to a few games a season. .If I won $100 million, I'd give 50% of it to the church, then spend the rest on investments, home improvements, and travel. My first job was helping with painting/landscaping on my Dad's rental properties in North Highlands. Later on I was a custodian in the old Coronet Theater on Watt Ave. I was 16 at the time, and got paid minimum wage. My Senior Year in HS I had a car route delivering 104 papers for the Sacramento Union. Some of my fon...Expand for more
dest memories as a child were as a "military brat" traveling around the world. We went all over the USA, saw 12 countries in Europe and lived in Japan. I always wanted to be a fighter pilot when I was growing up. I had dreams of going to the Air Force Academy. As it turned out, I messed around during my sophomore year in high school, and didn't keep my grades up. I did go into the Air Force as an enlisted man, and took flying lessons and went to college for awhile, but my priorities changed. I never did pursue becoming an officer. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need enough space to spread out, have the right tools available and the freedom to be creative. Most of my heroes have come from the military. I'm a big English, and Scottish history, American Civil War, "and World War II buff," Three of my modern day heroes are men of God. Billy Graham, Rick Warren and Henry Blackaby have been inspirations to me because of their faith, perseverance and commitment to sharing the Gospel throughout the world. I can't forget my Dad. I looked up to him a lot when I was growing up. He was a fun guy who enjoyed life to the fullest. He took me horseback riding and flying when I was two years old. I still love anything to do with aircraft and flying, but I'm not so much into horseback riding anymore. I haven't ridden in years, but I do like horses. I'm still a t-shirt and jeans kind of guy most of the time, but I do dress up when I go to church, or for special occasions. My oldest friends are Larry Vaccaro, and Joe Vigil. Along with my brother Mick, and Tom Stevens, we were all "thick as thieves." We met in 1967, and ended up going through junior high and high school together. Sadly Tom passed away in 2011, and my brother Mick in 2017. I still keep in touch with Larry and Joe.
