Jeff's Story
Life
My Spouse
Kim and I met when I was directing a
production of Grease for the Elyria
Summer Theatre Association. She
played Jan and we hit it off and have
been together since.
My Pets
Sadie is a 5-year old pure-bred Golden Retriever we got as a puppy. Marshmallow is a Holland lop bunny that we got from a cousin last fall.
My Kids
I never thought that having children
would be so fulfilling. They're a real
joy to have around.
My Job
It's not exactly what I wanted to do
with my life, but it gives me a great
deal of time to pursue my other
creative opportunities.
I always wanted to be a pro golfer when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a crazy idea. As it turns out, they were right.
A cold beer and a good book is the best way to blow off steam.
The wildest thing I ever did in high school was posting stolen "For Sale" signs in the 15th fairway of Paradise Lake Country Club.
If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have coffee, music, and a sense of humor to be able to deal with the day-to-day.
My heroes are Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, Kris Kristoferson and Shel Silverstein.
I've been living in Elyria, Ohio since I met my wife. She's the reason I moved here.
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Mr. Bilirakis, because he was probably the best teacher I ever had..
Still haven't lost my love of golf, although I don't play much anymore. I love listening to baseball on the radio. But my big passions are drama and poetry and creating them both.
If I could improve my home, I'd remodel the attic and add on a family room. My dream home would be 5000 sq ft on 100 acres of empty land.
I've learned that it's easier to manage other people's teenagers than my own!
If I won $100 million, I'd give $10 million of it to charities for Erb's Palsy research, gifted and talented education programs, the arts and world peace, then spend the rest on a performing arts complex for Field HS, my family and me.
To be truly happy, I would be writing, directing and pro...Expand for more
ducing movies in Hollywood.
My current age is 42. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be dead. I was so completely wrong.
Still chasing that elusive star. I'm hoping to finish that novel I started 20 years ago and get published in the next two years.
I absolutely do NOT dress the way I did 20 years ago. My wife is my stylist when we go out, but the rest of the time its just jeans and polos. I work in a wood shop, so everything gets filthy with sawdust everyday.
The weirdest job I ever had is probably the one I have right now. I'm the Technical Director for Ashland University. I build sets for plays and design lighting for some of them as well. It's weird because it's both an academic position (I teach Tech Theatre courses) and a construction job. I remember building a house module in 7th grade Industrial Arts thinking I'd never need to know how to do that. It turns out, that's what I turn back to every time I need to know how to do something for my job.
I share my home with my wife and three children, which I find bizarre.
If I could do one thing differently, it would be my approach shot to the 18th hole in the Suburban League Championship in 1982. I skulled and 8-iron over the green and ended up 3-putting for a double-bogey. If I had hit the green and 2-putted for par, I would have won the tournament.
In 10 years, I hope to be wealthy. I'm going to get there by winning on Jeopardy or Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader.
I stopped smoking, but I can probably drink a lot more Guinness than most of you. And, thanks to my college students, I have a huge potty mouth today!
My first job was at Kent State University, where I got paid minimum wage (about $3.25 an hour at the time) to register students for classes. What I remember most about it is sitting at long tables for hours doing nothing until a student came along to register for a class.
I hope old friends remember me as the smart, funny, creative one who was always totally reliable and compassionate toward the less fortunate.
