Jeffrey's Story
Hopefully, you remember me. At Baldwin Harbor Junior High, I was voted "Most Controversial". At Baldwin High, I was voted "Most Individual" and "Most Controversial" by landslides that would have made Reagan proud.
I've since figured out why I was so different. You might have seen Max in "Parenthood" - well, that was (and to some extent is and always will be) me. I have Asperger Syndrome (AS), an autism spectrum condition. We Aspies, in a nutshell, have a great deal of difficulty picking up on things (like standing more than a foot away from someone you don't know well) that others (neurotypicals, or NTs for short) take for granted.

as a bit like modern technology - most of our software automatically updates itself and we don't even notice. Aspies don't even know all the software they have or what software they're supposed to have, and ours doesn't automatically update. We have to know which software we need to get and then when it needs updating, and then try to update it manually.
Now, my practice A SPLINT (ASPies LInking with NTs), through inspirational speaking, training, consulting and coaching, gives fellow Aspies the tools to survive out there - and helps everyone else work, live and go to school with Aspies without wanting to tear anyone's hair out - quite so much.
