Jeffrey's Story
Life
Born in Brooklyn and escaped to Elmont, Nassau County, Long Island when I was seven. At one time or another I lived in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. Missed the Bronx and Staten Island. Moved to Miami in 1974 with Dick Zimmerman (EMHS 1959) as a photographers assistant. Now he's doing oil portraits (check out dickzimmerman.com. I was married to a beautiful, City of Miami police sergeant (Cuban-American - my translator. Good thing to be in Miami) and have three great kids (two boys and a girl) and 6 grandchildren (5 boys and one princess). My wife, Martha and I went back to work for the U.S. Marshal Service after retiring from the Miami Police Department and Miami Dade Police Department...
My wife passed away April 21, 2021 at home in her sleep.
Marcus, my oldest son, is married to Alejandra. He's a high-end property manager and she's studying to be an RN. Matthew graduated from Florida International University with BS degrees in biology and information technology and then an M.S. in Data Security. He was working for the US 11th Circuit Court of Appeals and is now working senior analyst cyber security for Chewy, Inc.. He is married to Raissa, an RN. Meagan, my daughter, graduated with a degree in special education at Miami-Dade College in 2012, then received a paralegal certification from the University of Miami, and is now working for the U.S. Attorney Office, Appellate Division in Miami as a paralegal. Meagan's husband, Ken, also a paralegal, works in a criminal law firm. Since 1995, I am on the board of directors of my Homeowners Association, a community of over 2300 homes and businesses. Ran in Sept. 2006 in the Republican primary for Florida House of Representatives District 120 which includes west and south Miami-Dade County and all of Monroe County (Florida Keys all the way to Key West). I came in second in Miami-Dade County. I was a Councilman, Miami-Dade County West Kendall Community Council 11 from 2007 to 2012 and now I'm a Hearing Officer for Miami-Dade County, Clerk of the Court, Code Enforcement Division.. I still live full time in Miami and have 3 Yorkies and a Shih Tzu and two cats. They are all rescues. Thanks to all that remember me.

Workplace
After returning from Vietnam, I was a Room Manager at the New York Playboy Club. Left the Club in 1971. I worked with a great bunch of professionals, which included the room directors and bunnies. Moved to Miami in 1974. First, I worked as a cop in the City of Opa Locka, then the City of Coral Gables. Finally, I became a deputy with the Miami Dade County Police Dept.(Sheriff's Office) and retired in June 2003 as a Sergeant. I was a training officer, general investigations detective, a supervisor of the Missing Persons/Child Exploitation Unit, and retired in uniform patrol in the Hammocks (West) District of that part of Miami-Dade County where I live. I have worked on the road in the Midwest, Northside (Liberty City), Cutler Ridge, and Hammocks areas of Miami-Dade County. Wanted to go out of the department the way I came in, playing with my lights and sirens. Worked as a Federal Court Security Officer for the US Marshal Service at the Federal Courthouse Complex in Miami from 2009 to 2013. The first thing I did after I retired was to learn how to work my "all-in-one" remote control.
