Jeffrey's Story

Life Born in Brooklyn and escaped to Elmont, Nassau County, Long Island when I was seven. At one time or another I lived in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. Missed the Bronx and Staten Island. Moved to Miami in 1974 with Dick Zimmerman (EMHS 1959) as a photographers assistant. Now he's doing oil portraits (check out dickzimmerman.com. I was married to a beautiful, City of Miami police sergeant (Cuban-American - my translator. Good thing to be in Miami) and have three great kids (two boys and a girl) and 6 grandchildren (5 boys and one princess). My wife, Martha and I went back to work for the U.S. Marshal Service after retiring from the Miami Police Department and Miami Dade Police Department... My wife passed away April 21, 2021 at home in her sleep. Marcus, my oldest son, is married to Alejandra. He's a high-end property manager and she's studying to be an RN. Matthew graduated from Florida International University with BS degrees in biology and information technology and then an M.S. in Data Security. He was working for the US 11th Circuit Court of Appeals and is now working senior analyst cyber security for Chewy, Inc.. He is married to Raissa, an RN. Meagan, my daughter, graduated with a degree in special education at Miami-Dade College in 2012, then received a paralegal certification from the University of Miami, and is now working for the U.S. Attorney Office, Appellate Division in Miami as a paralegal. Meagan's husband, Ken, also a paralegal, works in a criminal law firm. Since 1995, I am on the board of directors of my Homeowners Association, a community of over 2300 homes and businesses. Ran in Sept. 2006 in the Republican primary for Florida House of Representatives District 120 which includes west and south Miami-Dade County and all of Monroe County (Florida Keys all the way to Key West). I came in second in Miami-Dade County. I was a Councilman, Miami-Dade County West Kendall Community Council 11 from 2007 to 2012 and now I'm a Hearing Officer for Miami-Dade County, Clerk of the Court, Code Enforcement Division.. I still live full time in Miami and have 3 Yorkies and a Shih Tzu and two cats. They are all rescues. Thanks to all that remember me. School Started school at PS 193 in Brooklyn NY. Moved to Elmont, Long Island, NY, in 1949. Then went to Elmont Road School, then Gotham Avenue School, then Belmont Blvd Junior High, then Sewanhaka HS, then Elmont Memorial HS. Finally finished in 1959. Workplace After returning from Vietnam, I was a Room Manager at the New York Playboy Club. Left the Club in 1971. I worked with a great bunch of professionals, which included the room directors and bunnies. Moved to Miami in 1974. First, I worked as a cop in the City of Opa Locka, then the City of Coral Gables. Finally, I became a deputy with the Miami Dade County Police Dept.(Sheriff's Office) and retired in June 2003 as a Sergeant. I was a training officer, general investigations detective, a supervisor of the Missing Persons/Child Exploitation Unit, and retired in uniform patrol in the Hammocks (West) District of that part of Miami-Dade County where I live. I have worked on the road in the Midwest, Northside (Liberty City), Cutler Ridge, and Hammocks areas of Miami-Dade County. Wanted to go out of the department the way I came in, playing with my lights and sirens. Worked as a Federal Court Security Officer for the US Marshal Service at the Federal Courthouse Complex in Miami from 2009 to 2013. The first thing I did after I retired was to learn how to work my "all-in-one" remote control. Military Started in July 1965. Inducted into the US Army. Basic training at Ft. Dix NJ; Army Intelligence School, Ft Holabird MD. Assigned to the 116th Military Intelligence Group, Washington DC. Sept 1967 sent to S-2, 149 MI Group, Gia Dinh, South Vietnam; then S-3, HQ,525 MI Group, Saigon, SVN; Finally, Special Agent in Charge, Counterintelligence Team 2, 3 Battalion (Prov), 525 MI Group, Vung Tau and Phouc Tuy Province, Republic of Vietnam, and was advisor to the Chief, An Ninh Quan Doi (Military Security Service) Army of the Republic of Viet Nam at Vung Tau Special Zone. Honorably Discharged in 1968. Joined US Air Force Reserves, Air Intelligence Agency in 1983. Assigned to Pacific Air Force, Seoul Korea; recalled to active duty during Operation Desert Storm and was assigned to 602 Tactical Air Control Wing/Intelligence Operations. After release from active duty was assigned to the 353 Operational Support Squadron, Kadena Air Force Base, Okinawa Japan, USAF Special Operations Command. Finally reassigned to 720 Special Tactics Group/Intelligence Operations, Air Force Special Operations Command, Hurlburt Field, Florida. Also, worked for J2, Joint Interagency Task Force East, Naval Air Station, Key West FL from 1992 to June 2002 when I retired. Member of the Vietnam Veterans of America; Veterans of Foreign Wars; American Legion; Air Force Association; Army Counter Intelligence Corps Veterans Association; National Counter Intelligence Corps Association.

Tomorrow is the commemoration of the Fall of Saigon. April 30, 1975. I can only hope that the South Vietnamese Army personnel that I worked with survived and will forgive us for giving up.
