Jennifer's Story
Life
In August 2007, I did volunteer work with the SPCA and that's where I adopted my dog, Chico. He's a black lab/ pit mix and I love him to death. I don't need kids because I have my child. He was born 5/21/07.
Military
I basically joined the militarty after high school...I had to pay for college somehow, and ended up having pretty much the time of my life. I did basic training in Ft. Jackson, S.C.; a cakewalk, then did Advanced training at Aberdeen Proving Ground, M.D., where I met my fiance (I'll get into that later) Then I was off to Baumholder, Germany. I can remember, being 19 and half way around the world in a foreign country. I was very excited. Germany is a very beautiful, enriched, culture filled country. When I was doing a 2-week crash course in German, we went to Trier, which was built by the Romans. Not long after I arrived here, I called it quits with the fiance, he was supposed to go Airborne, but decided that going AWOL to be with me was better...romantic but stupid. I couldn't have that. While there, I deployed to Bosnia then roughly 8 months later, to Albania right before the whole Kosovo thing happened. Then I thought I had enough; I had money for school and got to see Europe, so I went home for 6 months. Weekend warrior wasn't for me. So, in 2000, I enlisted again and went to Ft. Stewar...Expand for more
t, G.A. Unfortunately I never deployed with them other than training, which we still had a blast. Nothing better than pulling pranks on the unsuspecting. My time was up there, then I moved on to where I am now back in Germany. I'm now stationed in Mannheim and will be until the end of the year when I will finally come home. Now I got to see much more of Europe. I've been to London twice (I love that city), Paris twice, Spain, Rome, Belgium, Austria, Luxembourg, and throughout Germany. I've taken a class in Renassiance art which took me to Paris and Belgium. I absolutely loved it. I've been in a few undisclosed locations in Turkey before the start of the war in Iraq, been in Iraq last year and this year. I'm not saying I love the place, but the way I see it, if I had to live in a place that wass 100+ degrees by 9 a.m., I'd be pretty irate too. Yes, I dread the summer, but at least we'll have like 16 hours of daylight. I'd originally wanted to do a full 20 years and have retirement benefits when I'm 38, but I can't do the next 10 years in the desert. So, since I have a year to think about what I want to do, I can take some college until I find something I like. I was honorably discharged 2/11/07. I miss the military in and of itself, but I don't miss the deployments and double-standards that come with the territory.
