Jennifer's Story
Life
Here's the short & sweet version:
Quit college, moved north, got married, went back to school, got divorced, discovered a running & cycling addiction, became a veterinarian, became a born-again Christian, met a wonderful man, can't believe it's been 24+ years...
College
Went through a hellish year at Cameron, transferred to SWOSU where I had a great time but can't remember much of those days. Glad I took a few years off before returning to a 4-year degree program at Eastern Michigan University (B.S. in Microbiology) and then followed it up with 4 great years at Michigan State University (Veterinary Medicine). When I graduated Big Mac, I couldn't spell "veterinarian"; now I are one...Currently I'm working on my Master of Public Health at the University of Minnesota and I also teach a Small Animal Disease course at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI.
After Work
I've found a lot of exciting ways to spend my time when I'm not at work including running marathons, ...Expand for more
bass fishing, playing raquetball, and gardening among other things. I've also found that my job as a vet can lead to interesting places. I've been able to take my job "on the road" to places like Haiti (to train veterinarians), New Orleans & Mississippi (animal rescue post-Katrina), and most recently to the Iditarod dog sled race to work as a trail veterinarian at various checkpoints on the Iditarod trail in Alaska. Can't wait to see what's next!
Family
I feel very fortunate to have met and married a man who is also my best friend. He was also a veterinarian (large animals) but has since retired to pursue his life-long dream of becoming a minister which he has recently accomplished. Those of you who knew me well (especially in my wilder college days) probably could not imagine that I would end up as a preacher's wife!! We have decided to limit ourselves to four-legged furry children and have a wonderful family consisting of one wayward border collie and two cats.
