Jenny's Story

Life Hey, all. So I started school at SAIS-R, had a break in the second grade during the Gulf War when my mom, brother and I were in Pendleton, Or., and moved back to the states in '95. I went to Stanwood Middle School, got my first dog, and started playing bassoon in addition to alto sax. I started my first team sports besides swimming with volleyball, basketball, and softball. I only really stuck with volleyball and made varsity both years. My brother was at the high school in Stanwood and graduated when I finished 8th grade. He went to the UW in Seattle, my parents officially separated, and my mom and I went to live in Green Lake Seattle area while I went to Blanchet HS. My mom started working at a Piano store in Shoreline while my dad continued working for Boeing and living with our dog on Camano Island. He eventually had to get rid of the house and dog and move to an Apartment in Shoreline. My sophomore year I started playing trombone in jazz band and graduated from Blanchet playing all three instruments strong. I stopped playing sports, gained a ton of weight, but found a love in music with jazz band and drama with set construction and pit orchestra. In 2001 I started college at Central and my parents officially got divorced. My brother got a job at Microsoft and moved to an apartment Bellevue, but in walking distance to the Microsoft campus. My mom continued working at the Piano store and living in Seattle for a couple more years until she took a manager’s job at the Bellevue piano store. She first moved to Redmond, but now lives in the same complex as my brother. My dad moved to West Seattle, but he’s just bought his dream home in Kent. It’s in an airport community. He’s got a house, a hanger with a full accommo...Expand for more
dating apartment loft in it, and a landing strip for a back yard. I think he’s going to love it there. He’s finally back at a managerial position with Boeing, but also working on his own business that’ll help him leave Boeing. I spent summers coming back “home”. I lived in my brother’s spare bedroom and attended BCC. I guess that first summer I went to NSCC, but I must have still been with my mom in Seattle. Well, the next two summers I was with my brother. When I returned to Ellensburg after that first summer with my brother, I got a three bedroom with two roommates and started losing weight. Not eating dorm food and working out did amazing things. This last year I finally got a single bedroom apartment. I had to get it at the beginning of the summer, so I just stuck around for summer school. Man was that hot, but nice. So now I’m graduating in June '06. I wasn’t able to keep up the alto sax. I tried to do bassoon and trombone, but had to take a two year break to just focus on classical and jazz trombone. Last year I picked the bassoon back up, and that was fun, but I guess a bit much. I got mono and had to take spring quarter off. I started this year doing bassoon again and tried for the top band and orchestra. I got in winter quarter and was able to do my senior recital on trombone with a piece on bassoon. I sadly had to drop bassoon for my last quarter. Bassoon seems more the hobby and trombone my main love. I’m taking some amazing lessons from this jazz sax player Lenny Price. I’ve never had such a good teacher. When I leave Central, I’ll have a BA in music and then it’s off to instrument repair in Renton. I’ll have a summer of finally no school and then some great specialized training. I’m pretty stoked.
