Jenny's Story

Life Edited: 2007. I am now a successful novelist, and I'm married to a computer scientist and have one child (so far) whom I'm homeschooling because I am so anal. :-) He's not going to have to go through the hell I did in school. I finished my degrees in Spanish and English Lit from Purdue with a minor in religious studies. I work from home and love it. I've chosen one of the most difficult careers in the US to make a living at (no, I never can take the easy way out)...and am doing it! (I write under a pseudonym, BTW. You can email me if you want to know what it is.) School I hated school. Just about every freaking moment of it. The best moments were those when I was not bored, which came once a month, if I was lucky. Funny thing: Many people assume that good students like school. The reality couldn't be further fromt he truth. I like revisiting Classmates because it reminds me of how happy I am to be free. College I attended and graduated from Purdue. I started in ME--a bad choice fromt he start. I was bored by my classes and annoyed by my internships. Switched to physics because I didn't know what I wanted to be. Switched again and graduated with degrees in English and Spanish and a minor ...Expand for more
in religious studies, mainly so I could have more time for writing novels, competitive ballroom dancing, and running a small business out of my dorm room. I was bored in high school. Bored in college. I discovered that all those teachers who awarned that it would be "so much harder" next year were, once again, wrong. My one interesting semester was when I took 30 credit hours, 15 at the grad level, but the problem there was that the material wasn't any harder: there was just a lot more of it. Basically, college was a huge letdown from an intellectual perspective. 13 years of frustration and playing the game was paid off with 4 more. Not worth it. The same thing's not going to happen to any child of mine! Met some people I really liked, though. Including my husband. And I learned to dance and came to grips with who and what I was and what that meant. Workplace I'm a novelist. Fulltime. You wouldn't believe what I write if I told you. Military Somehow, I developed exercise-induced asthma my senior year of HS, which got worse my freshman year of college. That and a bum knee and no patience for the posturing of the student officers, and I was out of NROTC before my first summer. I don't regret it.
