Jeri Sue's Story

Life I would love to hear from people, it has been a while. Anyway, below is my life... I stayed and worked in the Ann Arbor area until I moved to Indianapolis, IN in 1990. I moved to Columbus, OH in 1996 to be a part of a church plant team with my church association--Great Commission Ministries. While here in Columbus, I have had the opportunity to go on short-term missions trips to Venezuela 3 years in a row, Germany in August 2001, and to El Salvador in 2002. I didn't have a trip in 2003, 2004, 2005, but would love to head back to Venezuela or Europe if the opportunity is there to do so--it would depend on the political situation there and if it will be safe to take a team. In the summer of 2004 I transferred churches to another GCM church that wasn't campus related, more community related with more people my own age. Since moving churches I have participated in several choir opportunities that have been very enjoyable and impacting. My church only has choirs for special times like Easter, Christmas, & anything else that could be benefitted by a choir. There are no try-outs for the choir, anyone who enjoys singing (whether or not you can carry a tune or not) is allowed to be in it--there were about 250 this year, the biggest so far. There is only encouragement shown, making it a safe & fun place to be. The 2nd weekend of December we do a Christmas program that is free to the public, we did 6 performances this year with almost 6000 people total coming through our doors to see it. We did 10 songs as a choir, the children's choir (100 of them) did 3 songs, there was a skit, and several testimonies. It is my 3rd Christmas program and they are always so amazing. In my spare time I enjoy cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting, beading, camping, canoeing, and traveling. I get up to the St. Johns area about 2-3 times a year since most of my family is still there. I have had a lot of challenging experiences come into my life since 2001, but I have been able to see them as blessings in my life that has helped me to grow in many different ways. I would love to share what has happened with anyone interested, just ask. Life is good!! I'd love to hear from others, feel free to click on the e-mail icon to contact me. College I had the opportunity to complete 3 years of college and start into my 4th at Eastern Michigan University. I lived in Putnam Hall for the first 3 years in the same room. Putnam was an international dorm at the time and the exposure to living with the internationals was awesome. I had many friends there and the opportunity to do some English tutoring with a few of them. Even though I didn't complete college, I'm very grateful for the opportunity to go to college and receive the experiences, education, and knowledge that I did. While in college I had a double major of Special Ed/Visually Impaired and Secondary Ed/Geography. I learned a lot about myself in college and have used some of the skills I learned from my educational experiences in different forms during the past 20 years. Overall, college was one of the best things in my life, it helped me to discover who I can be and to start developing that person to become a big part of who I am today. Workplace I have worked a number of jobs since I have been old enough...Expand for more
to have a job, but looking back, most of them revolved around caring for children. I have worked in food service a couple of different times, at a drive-in theater one year, doing sewing repairs one summer home from college at Hazel Findlay, and other little odd jobs like sewing & baking for minor things. My main jobs have been working 3 years at an awesome day-care in Ann Arbor; I do miss my fellow co-workers there, we were like family. I worked 6 years for Target after moving to Indianapolis in 1990; I started as a cashier, moved quickly to the service desk, then within a short time to full-time cash counter. I enjoyed my work at Target for the most part, but am glad to be away from the retail arena. After being at Target a couple of years I also took on being a part-time nanny for the next 4 years--I still have close connections to the family. I moved to Columbus, OH in 1996. I worked at a day-care for a year; not the experience I had in MI, but it paid the bills. I became a full-time nanny in Feb 1998 for a wonderful and caring family. I was with them for 5 years until they outgrew their need for me as the children became school age & other things altered. I found a job immediately with 2 families caring for their infant boys in Feb 2003. I have so enjoyed caring for the boys, but am now caring for only one of the families as some changes happened with the other family. As of the beginning of Sept 2006, the little boy I take care of is now 4 and his sister is a very active & bossy 2 year old who keeps me quite busy. March 24, 2006 brought along a new & very active baby brother for the older 2; now I'm quite busy and on the go. I love my job, I love the family, I am blessed. Well, here it is Dec 2007 and I am with a new family. My previous family had a change of circumstances and I needed to find a new family to take care of. I was blessed with a temp family for 2 months while their nanny was on medical leave; they were truly a blessing and it allowed me more time for job hunting. After 3 nanny web-sites, 2 on-line applications, several interviews, I am now blessed with another wonderful family. I have been with Donovan for 7 months now and a new baby boy, Nicholas, was added Feb 7. They both keep me very busy and on my toes, especially since Donovan is strong-willed and believes we should do everything his way. I do enjoy my job and am very blessed to be with this family, probably my last (sigh). I am considering going back to school, but now sure what, possibily something in the engineering field--I love techical stuff and know I could find a good job, one where I can buy my own house and even foster a child with the option of adopting. We will see what the future holds, for now, I am enjoying my new family. Military I wasn't in the military, but I have a brother who has been in the Navy for about 23 years, stationed out in Washington state at Whidbey Island. Greg is going to be deployed once more for 6 months come Oct--I keep praying it is not back over too close to Iraq. I had the opportunity to visit him the summer of 2005 for the first time, it was quite enjoyable & hard to leave. I have another brother in the Army, stationed at Ft Hood, Texas; he was in Baghdad for a while and hopefully won't have to go back.
