Jerri's Story

Life I have traveled far and wide since leaving Port Byron Central. In 1970, I married my high school sweetheart Richard Hansen. We are still trying to see if it is going to last. Rich was requested in 1969 by Uncle to join the Army, but he joined the Air Force first. That is were we stayed for 21 years. Living in New York, Alaska, California, South Dakota and Maryland. We are the parents of a daughter, Stephanie, who is married and living in northern NY. I am a late bloomer, starting college at 27 yrs old and getting an Associates in Nursing. I was fortunate to find a wonderful partner and opened the third certified home health agency in the State of Alaska. It was wonderful, but Uncle had other plans for us and we moved to Maryland. I ended up using my experience to help start an agency in Fairfax in Virginia. Becoming Administrator of the agency and the Corporate Director of Nursing for 9 offices for APS. I went to work at CMH becaming a Nurse Manager,where I finished my BS in nursing at SU. I was not finished with school thought, I received my MS in nursing as a FNP at Binghamton. I worked for 4 years as an FNP in a rural community. I loved it. Regretfully, I have MS and it forced me to stop working. I try to utilize my education and skills by volunteering at a community college and trying to teach others about MS. Rich and I love to sail and spend most of our summers weekends at Fair Haven on our 28 ft. Etap. We are members of FHYC and just love it. It is a wonderful escape and sailing offers so much freedom and challenge as well as fun. We are now in the market for a bigger boat. Rich is the principle at DeRuyter which keeps him busy all year around. I notice he is getting grayer over the last few years. I'm not sure if it because of his job or me. Maybe both who knows. I try to stay busy, but would love to hear from others from school to catch up.
