Jerry's Story
Life
Really abbreviated history:
1) Meadowdale High, 1965

11) Epok Inc, Jul 04 through Nov 16 (Software Engineer)
12) Retired, Jun 07 till I run out of money.
13) Started working for Brightlight Consulting for projects that require certain specialized skills. Call it semi-retired.
Other items of consequence:
1) Met Marilyn Thomson in June 1974. We became "life partners" and we're both still alive.
2) Marilyn is a widow. Her son, Lyle, had just turned six when we met. I went to a lot of tee-ball, b-ball, boy scout camp, and PTA. He introduced me as "Dad". I cry too easy.
3) I was Lyle's Best Man. And now we have a nine-year-old dynamo for a granddaughter. So ... soccer, tee-ball, tai kwan do, .... She introduces me as "Papa". Makes me feel privileged.
4) New job with a startup company. Man is this fun! They let me use Linux, so I don't have to learn Windows. Linux is a bit of a culture shock for an old Unix man...Expand for more
, but I've learned to love it.
5) Decided to retire around the middle of 07. Still programming with an old buddy, as a hobby. But - hey! We could strike it rich! (And the more I work with Linux, the more I like it.)
6) Still retired some of the time. Brightlight has been finding more projects, so now I'm working more than I'm retired. It's a good thing these projects are fun!
7) Went full time at Brightlight.
8) Marilyn passed away March 2, 2013. Just writing this makes me cry, and it's been two and half years. I miss her beyond belief, and she still is in my dreams ... actually more than she ever was when she was still here.
9) Went back to hourly at Brightlight. I'm easing into retirement and will continue to reduce my working hours.
Well, there's a life summary for ya.
-Mikey
Marilyn passed away March 2, 2013. From symptoms to death, six months. I miss her constantly and am heartbroken. I'm still working at Brightlight, and have been full-time for quite a while. This job is a life-saver. I find I'm happiest when I'm working, and saddest when I find no one at home to talk about our days with.
My granddaughter Cameron is now 13, is a roller derby girl, has wild pink, blue, red, constantly changing hair, and likes to spend time with Papa (that's me). I should add some of her pictures to my album ...
The anniversary of Marilyn's passing was a week ago. I'm still heartbroken.
Cameron is now 15, going on 16. She's got her learner's permit, and I'm going to buy her a car. She requested an automatic, but she's getting a Miata with a stick. SAVE THE MANUALS!
