Jerryl's Story
Life
My Spouse
I was a student at MIT, attending St. Paul AME in Cambridge. I looked up in the choir one day, and there was Brenda, a BU student with an "Angela Davis" Afro. But she thought I was a player, so we didn't really get to know each other for 7 years. Her story is special. After marrying me, she entered divinity school, but we had so many children it disrupted her completion. she finally finished 26 years later, thanks tot he willingness of her school t allow her to return and retain her previous credit.s during that gap, she pastored 3 churches - one she founded in our living room, one she renovated and restored, and one whose debt she cut in half. (Methodists move a lot). I have been honored to be her partner in ministry and in life.
My Pets
Uncle Lou brought the three kids a Christmas present back in 1993 - a "cute, thoroughbred, sweet" little puppy. Max was a Doberman Pinscher -very friendly, but I didn't mind his keeping unwanted guests away either. We enjoyed Max for nearly 13 years, pretty long for a Dobie. My daughter held him in his last moments.
In 2013 my daughter adopted a friend['s dog, Leila. She lived in an apartment, and could not provide adequate outside time for the Lab mix. We told her to bring Laila over in 2014 so she could run in the day. She's still with us.
My Kids
They certainly keep a full schedule. Jeremyah is entrepreneurial and computer-oriented. He is beginning to develop the kind of people insight that may make him a truly successful businessman someday.Having graduated from Prairie View A&M in Computer Science, he worked 75 feet down the hall from me before I was moved to local headquarters, supporting the Flight Deve...Expand for more
lopment and Operations Contract for NASA, where he developed upgrades and repairs for the Command Server and now implements the security level. A recently baselined design concept of his corrected several issues with Command, a major achievement for a young man. In 2008 he added poetry to his intellectual repertoire. He is the Houston champion in Slam Poetry in 2010, 2013, and 2014, and the Texas Grand Slam champion in 2014. Check him out at thefluentone on Youtube.com
Justyn is athletic and musically oriented. He's been playing the drums since 1, and professionally since 4. He's worked on at least one album for a Ska group called the Quinns. You should be able to google for it. He majored in Sound Recording Technology, graduated in May, 2010, and is now a Minister of Music at his church, as well as a music teacher for Boys&Girls Club.
Bryanna is the apple of her Daddy's eye. She completed her bachelors degree in broadcast communication on time, at the Dan Rather School of Communication, Sam Houston University. She's been involved in retail management for the last few years, and is working out her dreams while caring for her puppy labrador retriever.
My Job
I do get to apply my college training as a Process Consultant. The most fun I had was in building a team of engineers that developed the interface software for the Space Station and its flight controllers. You can see a glimpse of it in the movie "Gravity" on board the station. Since then I have become a Lean/Six-Sigma Black Belt, focusing on continuous change, improvement, problem solving, and mistake-proofing. I am honored to have trained nearly 500 Green Belts, and to serve as mentor for many of them.
