Jesse's Story
After high school, I attended Boston University where I earned my BS in Elementary Bilingual Education.
After Undergraduate School, I joined the Peace Corps, working in Honduras.
I then returned to Santa Fe and taught fourth grade at Kearney Elementary and 6th grade at A
I returned to Boston were I worked in a 766 school, a private psych hospital, a children's psych hospital,
and head trauma rehab hospital as an Occupational Therapy Aide.
I legally changed my last name to Chavez, My Maternal grandmother surname. I took Valdez as my middle name, which was my Paternal grandmothers surname. The Williams name had been randomly chosen by my great great grandfather, and it is not an accurate reflection of my ancestry.

I completed my MS in Occupational Therapy in 1988.
I returned to Santa Fe (Glorieta), and worked a the NM State Hospital in Las Vegas.
I eventually moved to Silver City in 1992 where I started an Associate Degree program for Occupational Therapy Assistants at Western New Mexico University. The program was accredited in 14 months.
I then worked in Tucson Schools before returning to NM - Las Cruces where I have lived for over 25 years.
I worked in the Gadsden Schools (just south of Las Cruces) for 20 years as an Occupational Therapist, 5 years in El Paso Independent School District, and I am currently retired from Gadsden Independent School District. I moved back to Santa Fe in October of 2021 in order to be closer to family. I now live off of Osage.
