Jessie's Story

Life: .....Mid-July 2012..... Time for an update once again....I haven't been on this site since 2011! Here I go again, I've moved once more. Seems I've been in perpetual motion the whole time I've been in Montana. Uh. I do not like moving! For starters, I'm getting too old for all of this packing and hauling. My mother joined us the year after Dad passed and within a year she had a stroke, forcing me to come back to town. We've been "camping" ever since February. This is getting old. She refuses to move, so here we sit, prisoners of her will. Sad. My daughter, Heather, is having a fit. Can't say that I blame her. I suppose I, too, would be acting out if it were appropriate at 65. I always assumed that Life would get better and better as age crept up. I'm finding that there can be much sadness connected with the adding of years. There are more things that seem to go wrong. I keep asking, "Where did all of those 'wonder years' go?" Their memory is more like a dream to me, and ever more precious with the passing of time. For those of you who haven't been here before, let me catch you up on all of the past years. For those who have been here a time or two before, just skip to the bottom and spare your eyes. "The walk" has been filled with many interesting experiences along the way. After high school graduation (1964), my mother, brother and I joined my father in France for two years. In 1966, Dad's 66th Tac Recon Wing was transferred to England, where I spent a semester at a little private college just outside of London. I married young (aged 20), bore seven (7) "interesting" children over the course of a two and a half decade marriage. Ron and I divorced in the spring of 1993, and Life for me began anew. First of all, I went back to the university, and finished my education, earning a BA in History. Then, I took a 5th year in Special Ed, and spent 2 years in the classroom, only to realize that I was NEEDED far more at home! My youngest daughter, Heather (now 23), was born with Down Syndrome, and a stay-at-home-mother is what she required most. Oddly enough, she has turned out to be a wonderful traveling companion. We have had many exciting trips around the country discovering the beauty of America. On one of our "outings," we stumbled upon Montana. Well, it didn't take ME long to decide where it was that we should be. So, we went home, and I packed us up and we moved the 1261 miles! What an adventure that was. February is not the month to move to Montana, folks! We hit an ice storm coming through Idaho and the driver's windshield wiper broke, forcing me to drive with my window down, so I could see the road! We managed to make it to a U-Haul dealers...Expand for more
hip and got things fixed. That was indeed a true "adventure."! That was 2006, and we have celebrated our 6th year in February, and of course, we are still "loving" our life in Montana. Initially, we started out in a 4,400 sq. ft. mega home (the BIG house), overlooking the river. Unfortunately, this "troubled" my mother. We were only two souls occupying that huge home, so eventually it was strongly suggested that we vacate. Heather and I opted for a little glorified cabin on the river 28 miles south. It was Heaven on Earth until a very thoughtless neighbor killed my favorite doe, and left her head lying in his backyard for me to see! Horrified, a temporary retreat was made to town. We spent a lot of quality time at the local park with the grandchildren. But, alas, in-town living proved to be way to sterile for the likes of us. So, when the opportunity presented itself to return to the BIG house, we gladly took it! And there we sat as happy as two little green peas in a pod. 2009 became a "lost" year, simply because along with much much joy, came deep sorrow. My dad "passed" that July, and it was a great loss for all of us. On the positive side of things, Dad was able to spend his last four and a half months here in beautiful Montana with us (March through July), and parting became such sweet sorrow. How grateful I am for those wonderful months of his life! A true blessing. He IS truly sorely missed! "Thanks, Daddy, for making Montana happen! I love you! We all loved you, and miss you terribly. R.I.P" All of my seven children, and 8 of the 11 grandchildren are now living in and around...God's Country!!! What are our plans for the future? To simply ENJOY each and every day to the fullest extent that we can. Heather and I are continuing to make "memories," creating our OWN little history, and leaving no stones unturned. Due to all of the confusion, we haven't made it on our annual road trips. Heather has been disappointed. She has had her heart set on a trip to Helena, the birthplace of one of her former classmates and she wants to go see what it looks like. She is so funny. I intended to squeeze in a few little road trips, but with Mom's stroke, 2012 isn't the year. The state is one continual history lesson to be chased down, and there are hundreds of back roads that need exploring. Oh my, I see another season being lost. : ( Well, that about wraps things up from this end. It is my sincerest wish that each and everyone of you is enjoying YOUR life to it fullest extent. Don't waste a moment of it, friends! This is the ONLY Life that you've got. Make it count. I send my warmest best wishes to each and every one of you. Be happy! Jessie
