Jim's Story

Life Well, since graduating I have done a lot of different things. I attended ISU for a couple of years studying business, but, it bored me so I moved to Seattle with Sung Su in 1994. After living there for about 6 months I decided to return to college at the U of I recieving my B.S. in Ecosystem Mgmt. After graduation I went to work for the Bureau of Land Management in Cottonwood, ID. After one season working there I was offered a job working for the California Dept. of Forestry on the Mendocino Coast. Then in a twist of fate I was offered a job with the Bureau of Land Management in Pocatello. Which I accepted and now find myself back where I started. I have also successfully avoided that marriage bug that seems to be catching up with everyone. In 2000 I traveled to Europe for a month. It was a good time backpacking with my friends from college. I just wish I remembered more of it. Well I guess it has been several years so maybe just maybe it is time for an update... After about six years in Poky I was starting to get restless again so I decided to move on and transferred with the Bureau to Tillamook, OR. This gave me the opportunit...Expand for more
y to work amongst the big trees again. Unfortunately people had failed to tell me that Tillamook smelled worse than 10,000 cow's asses or maybe they did tell me and I just wanted to get out of Poky so bad I didn't pay attention. Another thing is that you hear how much it rains on the Oregon Coast but you don't really realize it until you live there. I had the distinct pleasure of living there during the worst storms in nearly 20 years. Oh and within the first month of living there I was hit by a Semi and totalled my government vehicle. So needless, to say after a short period of time I began to look for a way out. And 11 months later I find myself in Washington, D.C. I still work for the BLM but I am now the National Stewardship Coordinator. It is a fun and challenging job. I spend a lot of my time working on environmental policy and traveling reviewing projects in the 12 western states. For all the bad things you hear about Washington I absolutely love it here. The things to do here are endless. Sometimes I don't even know where to begin. And just so the answer is out there...No I haven't been mugged yet! Better find some wood!
