Jim's Story
After High School I spent 4 years doing nothing but working at Uptown Lanes and Wheelgoods. Started College in January of 76 and graduated in 79 with an Accounting degree. Went to work for Land O Lakes as an Internal Auditor after college. I didn't like that and transferred to a financial analyst position. Met my future wife, Kathy at work while she was an intern in the middle of her MBA program. At this point I quit drugs and have been clean ever since. In 1984 she finished her MBA and got a job in Kansas City. I went along and found a job at Farmland Industries in KC as a cost accountant. We were married in November of 86. In 89 I got a new job at Yellow Freight as an Information Center Analyst. Our son Jeffrey was born in July of 89. Kathy was transferred back to Minneapolis in early 92. Since I really wanted to come back home we sold our house in KC and we all moved back to Minneapolis. We bought a house in Eagan where we are today. I got a job as a network analyst at a small Software development Company, Softbrands. We have offices all over the world, which has allowed me to do some international travel. UK 3 times, and to China 3 times. In March of 2008 I took an around the world trip visiting 6 different offices, including Kuala Lampur, Singapore and Bangalore. Currently I am the manager of IT technical services at Softbrands. Softbrands moved to downtown Minneapolis in January of 2008, so I take the bus to work these days.
My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006. She had surgery and as of early 2009, all looks well. Our house in Eagan has a small forest in it, quite unusual for the area. We have a lot of garden space and plant and move flowers every year. We also have quite a few bird feeders and feed the birds year round. I have been an avid wilderness canoeist since High School, but it is getting a lot tougher to do that as I get older. Some of my adventures in the wilderness have been a little harrowing.
Went back to school and got a Master degree in IT at Metropolitan State University, graduating December, 2015. As of 2016, I am a network engineer focusing on security. My wife and I are still together and looking forward to retirement by the end of the decade. I hope everyone else is doing well from my class.
