Jim's Story
Life
I attended Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania (about 60 miles north of
Philadelphia) and majored in History. I went to Navy OCS immediately thereafter
and ended up making the Navy a career for 20 years, retiring in 1987 as a
Lieutenant Commander (my Dad was also career Navy). I spent 18 of my 20 Navy years on the West Coast/ Pacific area (13 of those years were in San Diego, hence our decision to call SD "home" and stay here once I retired from the Navy). I was a Surface Warfare Officer (means I was on ships, not subs or a pilot). When I retired from the Navy, I took a job in SD with a defense contracting firm and have essentially been doing that general type of work for the past 14 years. My current project involves military satellite communications systems.
I met my wife, Mary, out here. She was a native of Long Beach, CA (just south
of L.A.). We were married in Long Beach in May 1969. We have two daughte...Expand for more

Carolyn, who is 30, and Jennifer, who is 27. Neither daughter is currently
married (much to my chagrin). Carolyn lives in L.A. Jennifer moved to Portland OR recently.
Sad to say, my wife, Mary, died of cancer in January 1999, just a few months before our 30th wedding anniversary. My daughters are still having some problems dealing with the death of their mother - hence a partial explanation for their current,
non-married status (not to say that there aren't others). Both are dating again, and seem to be serious, so they seemto be getting on with their lives. Although Mary's death was personally devastating, life does go on - eventually. I have since
re-married, to Barbara, in October '00. Barbara is a divorcee who also has two
daughters who both live in Monterey. Barbara's older daughter is married and recently (May '02) had a son, so I am now a grand father. Life may not be "perfect", but it is definitely "good"!
