Jim's Story
Life
Highlights of the last 50 years:
Went to the University of Utah directly from Olympus.
In 1957 I decided to join the US Coast Guard. I attended Electronics School in Groton Connecticut upon graduation I was transferred to the C.G. Cutter (Ice Breaker) Northwind. I made two trips to the North Pole and one trip to the South Pole. I took electronics engineering courses during this period. In 1959, I met my future wife Patricia Ross. In April of 1960 we were married and I was transferred from the Northwind to the Coast Guard Radio Station at Westport, Washington. In 1961 I left the Coast Guard and started working for the Boeing Company. In 1963, the first of two sons (Tim) was born.
In 1964, I left Boeing and went to work for Rocket Research. After a year I decided that to have a long life, (We kept blowing-up rockets.) I should return to Boeing. In 1967, my second son (Steve) was born. I...Expand for more
stayed at Boeing managing the Electrical Laboratory until 1970.
In 1970, I started working for the University of Washington and became the Director of Facilities Planning and Construction. Over the years, I became very involved in Jeeps and off-road racing. My whole family was active until the early 1990Âs. I also became involved in my community (Kirkland, Washington) and spent almost 5 years on the Planning Commission and joined the Kiwanis Sunrisers. In February of 2006, Patti and I moved to the little town of Mount Vernon, Washington. We had spent 38 years in the same house in Kirkland and decided now that we are both retired it was time for a change.
Patti and I now enjoy our two grandsons and boating in the San Juan Islands which are just miles away from our new home.
I have just (3/10/10) been appointed to the Mount Vernon Planning Commission. My life is going to become more exciting.
