Jim's Story

Jim is from Victoria, British Columbia. Jim is still single after several long-term relationships that didn't work out. Jim's schools include Nip-Rock High School followed by three years at Queen's University [two years of engineering followed by 2nd year honour's English] a degree and a bit of graduate work in political science at Simon Fraser University, then years later, -after being a long-time ski bum and damn good mountain climber - part of a Registered Nurse's course at British Columbia Institute of Technology. [That seemed a good idea at the time as a profession that would take him throughout the world but alas, it turned out he "just wasn't the type]l. Jim eventually attended Sheridan Community College (Journalism - where found my calling at the advanced age of 42.) Journalism took him to many countries of the world including virtually every war between 1991 and 2006 - the end of the Ethiopian Civil war, Bosnia (3X) Kosovo (2X), Iraq and Afghanistan (4X). mbition of his youth - to earn a good living while doing something that didn't seem like work. Or as he often said, "I can't believe they actually pay me to do this stuff!" After taking a buyout from his newspaper at the age of 63 Jim worked for the United Nations' World Food Programme in eastern Congo, then in Haiti (2X) He also travels a lot on his own. To date he has visited 56 countries. Jim's interests include Everything. Music: Jim likes includes Everything except Rap and Hip Hop. Books Jim likes include mostly non-fiction, specializing in history, politics and science. Movies - Jim rarely goes (there's not enough time in the day). And he refuses to watch TV. He remains, to this day, an avid motorcyclist and his trusty 1990 600cc Honda Transalp has taken him through 26 countries to date. [His profile photo shows him on his Honda in the Karakoram Mountains if far-north Pakistan. Still on his bucket list? Perhaps the purchase of a sailboat, since he has ambitions to someday sail across the Pacific.
