Jim's Story

What a long, strange trip it's been... After H.S. graduation, I went to Beloit College, picked up a B.A. majoring in Philosophy and Sociology, and met some really good folks along the way. From there, it was to Chicago Theological Seminary, where after three years of class work and one year of internship (St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel, WI) I earned my M.Div. During that time (1983, to be exact) I also got married to Abby Keppler (SHS class of '79). I accepted a "call" to a church--Salem United Church of Christ in Plymouth, WI to serve on the staff there, in 1986, and have stayed ...Expand for more
ever since. It's hard to believe that I've married, baptized, taught, and buried over a generation of folks there, and I genuinely enjoy what I do. I get to a little (or, on somedays, a lot) of everything in this calling, and lately I've been able to tap into some inactive musical skills in the parish, too. Abby and I have two sons, both of whom have special needs, and we've built a house to accomodate those needs. We also share the house with a Norwegian Forest cat named Eddie. It may not have been exactly the path I thought life would take, but I wouldn't trade places with anyone, either.
