Jim's Story
I left Chicago the day after graduation to begin a professional baseball career with the Chicago White Sox..I was blessed to have played for 10 years and reached triple A, 1 step below the big leagues where I hit 306 in 1971..In 1972 I was asked to go into coaching, thus I was now a suspect rather than a prospect. During spring training of 1972 while beginning my coaching career the big leaguers went on strike..Chuck Tanner, the big league mgr advised my coaching career would be put on hold and I would go back to AAA Tucson for the 72 season..After which I decided at age 28 it was time to hang it up and settle down..
My wife and I decided on Lynchburg, Va., her home as neither of us wanted to live in Chicago..We have now been here for 52 yrs, and been married for 56 yrs. We have 2 children, and 4 wonderful grandchildren..
Following baseball I began a career in transportation s...Expand for more
ales for 30 yrs, retiring in 2004. Actually made sales calls in The Twin Towers, NYC.
Both our children graduated from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va..and our son
lives in Waxhaw, NC, just south of Charlotte, NC..Our daughter lives on Lake Norman in Cornelius NC just north of Charlotte..
In Sept our oldest grandson will follow his parents to begin College at Virginia Tech..
Thanks to my baseball career, 6 years in the Marine reserves and sales career I have been blessed to see 49 of our United States..The only one missing is Alaska..My wife says its to cold to go there. Oh well !!!
I wish I had been able to stay in touch with many of you but it just wasn’t in the cards with my leaving Chicago so quickly following graduation and being in Chicago so seldom after that..
May God bless each of you and keep you healthy and comfortable in your remaining years..🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎🥎
